Watermill useless?
I've been trying to set down a water mill and while a river runs through my whole map it's literally impossible to place a mill anywhere around it. Or it isn't close enough to water or it isn't 'supported by a heavy tile'. It's honestly retarded and a waste of research.

It isn't that hard to place down a Watermill.

I quite literally clicked all along the riverline and not a single spot was compatible.

Edit: I'm guessing it's because (logically) most of the tiles along the river are 'river deposits' which don't count as a 'heavy tile'... Which would be utterly retarded if that's the case.

Watermills work fine for me.

Try seed "javelin", 37.02 N, 13.16 E, and see if it works there (you can place them everywhere on that river). If not, it's your mods.

I'm guessing it's due to the 'river deposit' block that a mod adds. It's ruining everything by making the whole 'coastline' non-heavy. The only way I can use a windmill is by excavating hills next to the river which have a rough sandstone base. Guess it ain't the base game's fault though, so nothing to do but research geothermal I guess.

It sounds like you're trying to put too much of the watermill on the river. If I remember correctly, it's a 5x5 structure, with the wheel being a full row. The row(or column, depending on how you have it orientated) directly adjacent to the to the wheel itself can be on land or water, that way a slight variation in the bank of the river doesn't make it impossible to place the mill. The other three rows have to be on land, though it might be that 3 of the 5 rows can be in the water, and the other two have to be on land. I'd have to check to be sure.

To give you a visual, let's say that a 1 equals the water wheel tiles, 2 equals the tiles that can go on both land and water, and 3 equals the tiles that have to be put on land. The wheel itself will be facing west here.

If you are doing all of this, then check to see if you are trying to build it on soft sand, marsh, or non-moving water. All of these are incapable of supporting the tiles that need to be on land, and you'll need to remove them with the water pump(I believe it's called that, I don't typically use it). I hope that this helped, and if you still have questions, feel free to ask.

Smaller rivers can be difficult, large rivers make it easier. I think there is a moisture pump thing that can dry the ground so you can build on it. I think. I dunno, I never bothered to try it out.

Yep that will work but quite time consuming.

River deposits are part of a mod. As such, they don't count for allowing heavy building on it.
