Compacting stacks in storage?
Any way to compact stacks in storage zones? Google just gave me out of date mods.

That's also vanilla now. It's the lowest priority task within the hauling job, so when colonists run out of things to haul they will start cleaning up the stockpiles.

This might be a mod, I am not sure: You might be able to select a hauling pawn and force them to "merge stacks". This is tedious, but if you need emergency storage space, you can combine that one silver piece with his 499 friends to open a spot.

Otherwise, what Astasia said. If you need it as soon as possible, set everyone to haul as top priority. Or set a zone in a storage room and set a hauling pawn to that zone for a short while.

Bah missed it as well. Didnt see it... Nothing going on really yet havent seen them compact anything just yet. Just started a game and built bedroom, storage room and guest room. Doing a android start so no need for crops. so they all just twidding thumbs atm lol

As for zone idea... that might just work perfect. Ill give it a shot

As long as no mods try to supercede that behavior, they will eventually do it. In my experience, though, they really do need to have nothing else on their list of stuffs to do at that moment. Because we're almost always building something or requiring something to be hauled somewhere, for some reason, the opportunity for them to reorganize stacks is actually pretty rare until you get everything else optimized. Still, on occasion, i've seen them do it when I wasn't expecting it. There may be a sort of random jump in the likelihood it'll get done.

Also, they need to have other needs met, too, so they're not looking to fulfill those and that's not taking up their time. IOW - Mid to Late game is when you'll most likely see them increasing the efficiencies of your stockpiles, since they have more time to do it...supposedly. :)

I'm prefer small, shorted zones: only wood, coal, charcoal in one zone, steel like things in the other, silver stockpile, clothes and weapons - good or better quality, with at least 75% durability- goes on shelves. Etc etc etc. Also I have shelves / stockpile zones / refrigerators next to work benches with high priority (higher than the store stockpiles), so my crafters always have materials at hand.
But my low prior stockpile (usually in animal zone, my pawns distribute things from here) zones sometimes need a cleanup: When this happens, I'm zone restrict one pawn in the stockpile zone, so he can't do anything else just merging.
