RimWorld

RimWorld

To the composers of RimWorld music if you are out there.
Love this game, but I need a special shout out to whomever composed the music for RimWorld. I've had chronic insomnia for decades, and HATE taking meds for it because of the side effects. I love the background music, and have it on a loop at my bedside, and it had enabled me to get to sleep many nights. I know this probably wasn't your intent, but that composition has helped my quality of life so much, and I just had to say thank you.

That would be Alistair Lindsay.
You can check him out on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/spacebat777/featured

I do the same thing too, just not with Rimworld's soundtrack. If you're into using this type of music to sleep, relax or just to enjoy the sounds I have a few composers I can recommend.

Kalki, I'll take any suggestions you have with gratitude. I tried regular music, but my mind just cant put it in the background. Any recommendations you have would be great. :)

Kulgan, thank you for that link, I didn't know who composed the music. You rock.

Olafur Arnalds is my favorite contemporary composer. He plays the piano exclusively but is well known for his string orchestrations. What makes him unique is that he utilizes synthesized drum beat loops and now he incorporates player pianos into his newer pieces. Kiasmos is his side project where he does dance hall type music. He does do full orchestra sometimes too:

Hans Zimmer is the biggest name in movie soundtracks. Inception, Batman, Interstellar, The Last Samurai and many others. He does many large band orchestrations and melds lots of different instruments to make unique sounds. I am a sucker for strings so many of these videos will be string heavy.

Michael Giacchino was the first composer I was ever exposed to. He started out composing video game soundtracks but now does movies and TV show themes. The ones I think he is most notable for are his compositions for Medal of Honor: Frontline (video game), Lost (TV show) and Up (movie).

Jeremy Soule does video games almost exclusively. He does his own stuff but I know him solely for his work on the Elder Scrolls franchise. Skyrim in particular was the one that stuck out to most to me. I would often pause the game just to hear a track play out its entirety.

Ludovico Einaudi really loves music. So much so that he took his piano, stuck it on a floating iceberg and serenaded the melting glaciers with one of his compositions. He dabbles in soundtracks a bit but does his own think most notably.

Johann Johannson is a contemporary composer who passed away recently. He's very minimalistic in his approach and can accomplish a whole lot of emotion in very few notes with even less instruments. His Fordlăndia album is his crowning achievement in my eyes but most others know him for composing Flight from the City.

Max Richter is even more minimalistic than Johann was. If you want music to fall asleep to he might be your best option because he actually made a whole album that's about 8 hours long and designed to be slept to. Even in concert. He rented out a concert hall and played from 10 PM to 6 am while his audience slept through the performance. He's well known for his slow, long, resonating notes.

Lastly is Ramin Djwadi, onxe a student of Hans Zimmer, who is most well known for his work on Game of Thrones. The opening theme, the Stark theme, the Lannister theme, all of it was constructed from the ground up by this one man. In my opinion it's his music that is the unsung hero of the series and propelled the show into greatness. It was also the one redeeming quality behind season 8. He does work on several other shows and the biggest show he is affiliated with, now that Game if Thrones is over, is Westworld. I haven't seen the show but I may have to check it out after hearing some of the tracks.
