So, you're saying bloodninja is in the game, too? !!!
Must be a Cthulu mod...
Actually, having elderly colonists capable of "Story Telling" and the like as well as, in some cases, "Babbling Prophesy" that might turn out to be true (ie: Telling the player a disaster/raid has been scheduled) would be... extremely cool. It would give elderly colonists a reason to exist. Right now, the game basically treats the elderly like potential Hats...
"Yes, son, that's the way life is. You're born, you work hard, you try to survive, then you become a Hat."
Rimworld should give these sorts of abilities to the elderly pawns so the player has to deal with their issues if they want to benefit from these "Elderly-Only" sorts of abilities. It should be a mod... a Mod to save the Elderly from becoming Hats or from "grandpa slipped down the stairs and fell into the furnace" sorts of fates.
eg:
Elderly/Old Pawns can commonly gain the "Storyteller" trait, which counts as entertainment.
Elderly/Old Storytellers have a rare chance to raise another pawn's Skill score by one point up to their own limit in that Skill.
Elderly/Old Pawns suffering from Dementia can gain the "Prophet" trait which can, among other neato things, give the player a warning if a Disaster/Raid is scheduled.
Elderly/Old Pawns suffering from Alzheimer's have a higher chance to become Prophets. (or, something else beneficial, but with some interesting hooks?)
Those things and others would make the elderly useful and have some real life/historical implications as well.
We need some major Rimworld Societal Reforms!
Send the young ones on Spirit Walks, where they walk out the map to unknown places and return year(s) later with mad skills.... or dont return at all or return all deranged and crazy
tribes, monarchies, republics, gang hierarchies/dynamics
scouting/covert/sabotage/raiding missions. stealing of research

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senicide
The Heruli were a Germanic tribe during the Migration Period (about 400 to 800 CE). Procopius states in his work The Wars, that the Heruli placed the sick and elderly on a tall stack of wood and stabbed them to death before setting the pyre alight.

A common belief is that the Inuit would leave their elderly on the ice to die.[9] Senicide among the Inuit people was rare, except during famines. The last known case of an Inuit senicide was in 1939.

Ubasute (姥捨, abandoning an old woman), a custom allegedly performed in Japan in the distant past, whereby an infirm or elderly relative was carried to a mountain, or some other remote, desolate place, and left there to die. This custom has been vividly depicted in The Ballad of Narayama (a 1956 novel by Shichirō Fukazawa, a 1958 film, and a 1983 film).

Lapot (Serbian: Лапот, [lapot]) is the mythical practice of senicide in Serbia:[1][2][3] killing one's parents, or other elderly family members, once they become a financial burden on the family. According to T. R. Georgevitch (Đorđević), writing in 1918 about the eastern highlands of Serbia, in the region of Zaječar, the killing was carried out with an axe or stick, and the entire village was invited to attend. In some places corn mush was put on the head of the victim to make it seem as if the corn, not the family, was the killer.[4]

In Nordic folklore, the ättestupa is a cliff where elderly people were said to leap, or be thrown, to death. While the practice has no historical evidence, the trope has survived as an urban legend, and a metaphor for deficient welfare for the elderly.
I would laugh at them.
And then make a hat.
This could actually be something...
So, Rimworld has it all, but is there a "Gubbermint Mod?" We can have a Leader/Chief if they wear a hat... sort of. But, we don't have any way to for pawns to actually collectively organize themselves. They throw parties... but don't have Parties. :)
Rimword... t'is a silly place. BUT WE CAN MAKE IT MORE SILLIER!
So, a mod that allows pawns to hold "elections" and a call for "Voting" on... exceedingly stupid issues generated by the "art meme" generator or something. A pawn could get "elected" based on how well they were liked, for instance. Players would try to work situations where pawns may favor a certain pawn for "leader." Why? Because they'd bring a temporary buff for everyone... or debuff, depending on their traits.
I am unsure how Rimword's trait/behavior/AI system works. For instance, perhaps Leaders could temporarily gain traits? But, they'd be traits like "Powermad" where they get into arguments or order other pawns around, perhaps even asking love interests to step into their "office"... You could have to build an "Office" for some types of leadership or maybe a Throne Room for Monarchies/Dictatorships. Etc, etc, just because it's Rimworld, etc... :)
"An Election has been called!"
"Pidgy is elected Emperor for Life."
"Pidgy demands a Feast in his honor!"
"Pidgy is rejected by Clamydia."
"ConstipatedSumo is now Pidgy's rival."
"Pidgy places ConstipatedSumo under arrest."
"Pidgy sells ConstipatedSumo to The Squelching Prolapse Tribe."
Of course, some mechanics may not be possible since they're player-controlled. But, enough text and events that add minor benefits or penalties, or both at the same time, might make it interesting.
Coming Soon: "The Lord of the Flies" mod for Rimworld? :)
Dementia: Bionics
Nothing that can't be fixed with bionics!
Dementia gives a negative to speech and hearing, as well as the inability to learn as fast (15% reduction in skill gain) and high chance of "sad wander" breakdown.
The breakdown you can't fix, the skill gain you can't fix, speech I don't think you can fix, but there's bionic ears.
So really, the only downsides to dementia is the skill gain negative modifier, unless he was your talker. The rest can be fixed with good 'ol bionics!
Dementia = euthanasia
There's nothing that cannot be fixed by an eternal sleep ;)
He's one of my main pawns and test subject. He's only good at meelee and is protected with plate armor and a shield belt. He is slicing his enemies down so easily with his Longsword. :D
But sometimes it can get very funny when he gets confused in middle of an fight.
And ofc bionic eyes. Or a single Archotech eye
