You can select your pawn and watch their beauty meter dip down as they walk in ugly areas.
Just about everything is ugly tho & the stats vary: blood, corpse, soil, weapons on ground, traps etc. So maybe tidy up what you can with the place if they're dealing with it a lot.
Yes, they can help in those areas. You can look into other options like planting flowers outside. Personally I would put that grand sculptor somewhere inside.
Thats said, I usually dont bother making sure the outside area is "pretty" aside from keeping it clean of blood. I have never seen any noticeable negatives from a general outside setup.
It does add a positive beauty score, but it's not long enough to really have an appreciable effect for the effort involved. Lot's of pretty statues in the park, too bad it's full of drug addicts and trash...
Planting flowers is more economical and you can spread them along a walkway. I experimented with that in a heavily traveled area and it "worked" after a fashion, but it's still a lot of effort for only a temporary return. As soon as the next bit of "Ugly" is encountered it offsets the gains pretty quickly.
Any corridors or connecting areas can simply be floored, which negates the beauty penalty, and generates far less wealth than a sculpture.
