Art out of better materials is more valuable.
Weapons/armor out of better materials are generally stronger.
Benches out of better materials has no affect to my knowledge.
Traps out of better materials makes them stronger or faster to reload.
EDIT - potentially outdated and rough to read, but the wiki can give you some decent starting points: https://rimworldwiki.com/wiki/Materials
all materials have beauty number - that's it's effect on art (including tables, benches, beds etc)
they also have things like sharp damage effectiveness, blunt, attack speed, build time etc.
to check how much damage trap does - click on it.
Wood is 45% damage, plasteel is 110%. For blunt weapons, Uranium is 150% the damage.
For doors, the mass of the material greatly affects the speed of the door, and its HP.
Production benches, no difference that i know of other than damage needed to destroy them (hp)
furniture.. Value, mostly. Plus don't make beds of stone.
Which basically means the colonist's rest bar fills up slower while sleeping.
(It's possible it affects other stats for the beds as well, like surgery success chance etc, not sure.)
Yeah, been there done that. :) I only learned this info a few weeks ago as well. (Though it's all in the game, when clicking on the 'i' of a bed, but it's one of those things I hadn't bothered looking at closely.)
Agreed. Except in the case of prisoners. I'd rather them sleep longer (side effect of the lower rest level from stone beds) especially if they come in with any kind of addiction that they will need to go through withdrawal. In that case, the longer they spend sleeping, the better!
Beds for prisoners? You're sooo kind :)
A large problem that plassteel door is still flammable. It's very easy to mod out, but keep in mind if you aren't doing it.
And stone doors are a lot slower to open so slowdown your pawns, even auto-doors.
Wow! What a great idea!
You... i.....
That should work!
I think that a sleeping pawn is completely exempt for checks for mental breaks, they obviously don't interact in social fights, they won't be trying to escape while sleeping.... This could work.
And i never thought of it before, thank you BlackSmokeDMax for that insight.
Err just remembered, It's https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1141721293
HardcoreSK also, either natively or via an included mod, has the feature where benches/other things from different materials have different stats.
