RimWorld

Who else prefers 100% vanilla Rimworld?
I have around 850 hours on this game without mods.

For me it's all about surviving difficult odds (savage) using only tools the developer provided. That's the challenge, that's the fun for me. Overcoming all those little micro-hurdles and quirks only adds to that fun.

Does anyone else feel the same way? I suspect I am in the minority here but I can't be the only one.

Vanilla is fine. Modded is fine. There's no right or wrong way to play.

But good on you. You should get a cookie.

Who said anything about wrong or right, fine or not fine? Please stop projecting. I simply want to find out if other people enjoy what I enjoy.

Who's projecting? I answered your question.

Oh, i like vanilla.

With a bit of chocolate, some pistachio, a sprinkle of nuts, some ... (discussion continues for 6 pages)...

My colony powered by oil/chemfuel and true nuclear energy, inhabited by colonists and animals with both genetic and bionic enhancements, who use their poop to fertilize fields of indoor crops in a mechanoid terraformed wasteland, says hello.

They also take a shuttle to raid massive cities from time to time while calling in artillery support.

To name a couple of things.

It's pretty lame.

Nah, seeing what good features some mods add vanilla is Puke.

I see your point, OP, for sure. Some (probably all) of the seemingly quirky things in the game are there intentionally for balance.

Many players see quirky things and mod them out and that is cool! But, the mechanic is there for a reason.

I, also, enjoy using the vanilla tools of the game to overcome the challenges.
But, I also have probably 20 mods, too, and that is what is great about mods.

I agree some of the quirks are there for balance, some are less explainable. ;) Either way I enjoy those little hurdles and the extra challenges they bring.

The only point I am making is that I enjoy playing vanilla and wondered if anyone else did. There is no right or wrong way to play. If people have mods that make it a better experience for them then all the better! Mods are fantastic, I just prefer vanilla with all the quirks.

Tell me exactly what part of my question you are answering? All I can see is you drawing lines in the sand that don't exist and being rude for no reason. Thanks for the reply though.

Rude, now? If I wanted to be rude you'd know it. You posted something with a question mark involved and I posted something... could have been anything... after it, so that's an answer. Didn't have to be a good answer necessarily, but in this case I posted with my "feelings" on playing vanilla only, which you actually did ask about.

It's fine. I don't take any more joy in playing a game of Rimworld without mods than I do when I've added mods. I don't feel special because of game settings. There are mods that increase the difficulty of the game, mods that decrease difficulty or remove/change aspects of it, and other mods that just mess around with the UI. Playing vanilla isn't an accomplishment any more than playing with mods.

You play exclusively on savage without mods. Ok. Stream it and maybe someone will care. In the future if you only want responses from people that play just like you, just say that. Normally, I would apologize for saying something that confused you, but you jumped way past that already, so no cookie for you.

I hope you don't think I'm rude by suggesting maybe you should look up words like "projecting" before you try to use them in a sentence, by the way. I'm only trying to be helpful.

Yep thanks for the reply. Your feelings about what should be considered special and what should be considered an accomplishment are very interesting. You're definitely not projecting and you are not being rude. I take it back.

Erm, this thread has gone to ♥♥♥♥ somewhat. If any vanilla players get this far (hello by the way) know you are not alone. To everyone else, happy Rimworlding!

I like Rimworld...

Vanilla is great. Modded, provided one doesn't go nuts, is great too.

I find the perfect mix to be Rimworld with just a handful, literally maybe 5 or less "content" mods, to yield a great experience.

In terms of "best" it's really not a choice - Rimworld, modded or unmodded, is great.

The benefits of mods are greatly exaggerated in all games.

That said, I make use of the ones I find useful. I'm not anti-mod.

But for the most part I find much of what modders do is one step forward and two steps back, they fix something while breaking the balance of something else, etc.

As a result I mostly play just about every game vanilla. Finish the experience as the dev created it, and move on to the next in my backlog.

It was the developer who provided the tools to make and use mods.

I also enjoy vanilla, but there's a small handful of mods such as the Medical Tab and Color Coded Mood Bar which are too handy not to have. And they don't really change the game either.
