How to late game
Quick question, im getting closer and closer to those infamous 100+ melee units all with shields and am wondering how to deal with such mass. My base is only enterable from a small point that leads into a box with turrets and the like. They dont really cut it. Tips?

A turret setup as a box is super expensive, particularly if you have to replace it if they get by. What I do is try and have some lines to fall back to prior to the killbox. Basically you'll want to thin that horde before its at your doorstep. Don't go to far and dont stick around for the groupies to catch up, but send a few of your best shots out, fall back to a firing line, fall back to another line, and then your kill box.

Or ignore all that and just build some I.E.Ds they are expensive but are totally worth it against larger and less armored groups.

One mortar with EMP disables the shields.
EMP type IED does the same.
EMP grenades do too, but the force you to be kinda close.

Shock-trooper assaults by disposable units use up the Doomsday and Tri-rocket launchers.
(boomrats are really excellent for this!)

Turrets to take the attention of the invaders, while your snipers and Uranium Slug Turrets drop the heavy/armored enemy.

Traps on the ground to both slow them down and maybe drop a few.

Fire-based weapons (fire trap IED is great for this), to cause their units to break rank, run around like headless chickens.

Bottleneck the enemy into a tight space, and generously give them dozens of grenades.

If you *must* fight a melee enemy, let your turret do it!

Why are there that many in the first place?
Consider your colony wealth... wealth and numbers of colonists are the two main factors that determine an event severity. If you have not yet learned how to deal with severe events, then perhaps you have too many colonists and made your colony too rich ;)

If you are not against mods, use Rimefeller. You can research and manifacture napalm, then craft mortal shells full of it, napalm bombs (basically just a barrels that you can shoot and ignite) and napalm trails. I'm using it by myself, pouring napalm and placing barrels near my only entry point to the base, when raid happens I'm just dropping napalm shell on it and it's something like Vietnam V2.0
Depending on your biome and resource availability, you're going to want to look into how you manage the entrance to your colony. If possible, at the start of the entrance, place some doors and set them locked to 'always open' which will cause the entry tunnel to be considered an indoor room (assuming it's roofed and all that). Once you've gone and done that, you'll want some wooden walls and floors and an incendiary I.E.D. or two. Burning is a great way to disable large groups of enemies and doesn't require anything more than wood, a spark, and ingenuity.

An actual screenshot of your base would be helpful. You'd get more specific suggestions rather than just general advice.

Wooden traps, lots of them, infront of your kill box will be a good way to deal with large groups.

Problem is, when the "large group" consists of 243 tribals, they you will need at least 243 traps to stop them. more like 5* that many.

And if the "lots of them" are 50 pirates wearing shield belts and marine armor, they will tapdance over traps with no slowdown, much less damage.

None of which is relevant if you just bake them all in an oven. Awful, I know, but so is the premise that your colony is going to have 250 new tribals running in to pillage and otherwise inconvenience your colonists every 3 days.

I have a mod that gives me more turrets and allows me to build mud moats, I combine that with bunkers and just unleash hell upon the enemy

If you have vanilla then simply just build into the mountain and move everything in the mountain then have a tunnel with turrets, sandbags and your men at the end just sprayin and prayin till they get up to them then you retreat to another stop in the tunnel and wash rinse repeat till you are happy. There problem solved and i'll be expecting 10$ in my pay-pal for this info :)

Op mods not solution, better if you learn how to handle the hordes. Just like a peg leg vs an archotech leg.
But, I don't want to start a fight, everybody play as he wants.
+ I'm launched only 2 ships, usually I'm get bored around spacer tech and devastate my colony. ++ one of those ship was launched by Vampire colony (op AF), the other was an arachne colony combined with jecrells SW factions mod (ultra op). So... Shame on me.
But if you don't want op mods, imo fire is your best friend. Wooden floored killbox, flammers (wtf the vanilla name?), mortars with incie shells, boomrats, inc IEDs. Also if they coming with shield belts, heavy gunfire. HEAVY gunfire. But with enough turrets, you can suck their shields to dry before they reach your lines. Heavy gunfire combined with fire (and some emp to disable some shields) and they won't reach your colonists, but will die and flee.

Or have been relying on an unsustainable strategy all along. If you always rely on turrets, your colonists are all going to have relatively poor shooting skills. If you actually fight every raid head on, even your worst people are going to be at 10 by the endgame and the actual soldiers will be at 17+. That helps a lot.

You also won't have weapons and armor that are quite as good as what you would have had if you didn't spend so much of your resources on turrets. You'll probably get good stuff eventually anyway, but not as fast. Every component put into a turret is one not put into an early minigun.

Finally, you're not supposed to be able to reach a stage where raids stop being dangerous. The goal is to build or steal a spaceship and leave the planet, not to build a cozy base. The rim is not really a place where you can retire. If the AI storyteller thinks you're spending too much time building random other stuff, it'll try to encourage you to focus more on winning by making your life miserable.
