Disable roof collapse please
Please disable damage from roof collapse. It's tedious and adds too much realism where it is not needed.

Not going to happen. Try surviving a 1000 Ton rock roof falling onto you.

can something like this be modded?
Mciejju Aug 30, 2019 @ 12:27am
There are mods that let you destroy thick roofs.
TwoTonGamer Aug 30, 2019 @ 12:46am
I am not aware of a mod that addresses roof collapse.
You can place a 1 tile wall, a "pillar", in the middle of very large rooms. A wall supports a roof for 6 tiles around it. You would need a 1 tile "pillar" every 12 tiles or so.

You may already do this, but just in case.

Expanded roofing let's you build and destroy thick roof. To do that first need big research (12k).

Since the sarcasm is strong with this discussion and we're all free to play how we darn well please, a couple options I use to keep my pawns alive and maintain realism where possible:

- Either build a wall pillar periodically if you're planning on expanding an unsupported section of room roughly 10-12+ tiles in any direction. Alternately download an invisible roof support/beam mod if you want an aaesthetically pleasing base with few randomly dotted support walls.
- Plan your base better to prevent large enough spaces that might cause roof collapses.
- For large cavern type spaces, sometimes the option of having a central open skylight, either framed by support walls or invisible beams, actually is beneficial for some outdoor exposure and crop growing natural light. Downside for drop pods. Can auto delete roof using dev mode to accomplish this without getting crushed.
- When disabling single line walls, set your colonists to remove the roof before deconstructing the wall to prevent the minor annoying damaged from falling roofs when those dummies think 'yes, let's remove a structure and leave the roof in thin air!'
- If damage occurs and you really don't want this feature regardless of realism, use dev mode - found in options - to 'remove hediff' of damage taken from fallen roofing. (Can't help you if the pawn was crushed entirely, although if they had just died 'resurrect' would do just as good).

Some times I forget to remove the roof too, a little notification would be nice on the last section of wall.

Just to be clear, @Dog Sniffah are you aware that you can order your pawns to remove roofs before they deconstruct a building? Is that the problem?

And on top of that, make sure to use the "show roofs" tool in the lower right. It is the icon that looks like a little house. This can help show you where there are actually roofs and not just where they are set to be constructed/deconstructed.

WOW such an amazing reply. Try to use your only braincell and guess that he was talking about last before collapsing. Seriously your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ attitude is so annoying. You think you're being smart or funny? Sorry to ruin your dream but your comments are pathetic.

If you are sitting on a branch, sawing it off... Do you get a little gnome with a message warning you that you are cutting down your own support? No. You are expected to use your own sense to not do it.

Same with removing a wall that supports a ceiling.
