Please disable starvation due to not eating. It's tedious and adds too much realism where it is not needed.

You can place a 1 tile wall, a "pillar", in the middle of very large rooms. A wall supports a roof for 6 tiles around it. You would need a 1 tile "pillar" every 12 tiles or so.
You may already do this, but just in case.
- Either build a wall pillar periodically if you're planning on expanding an unsupported section of room roughly 10-12+ tiles in any direction. Alternately download an invisible roof support/beam mod if you want an aaesthetically pleasing base with few randomly dotted support walls.
- Plan your base better to prevent large enough spaces that might cause roof collapses.
- For large cavern type spaces, sometimes the option of having a central open skylight, either framed by support walls or invisible beams, actually is beneficial for some outdoor exposure and crop growing natural light. Downside for drop pods. Can auto delete roof using dev mode to accomplish this without getting crushed.
- When disabling single line walls, set your colonists to remove the roof before deconstructing the wall to prevent the minor annoying damaged from falling roofs when those dummies think 'yes, let's remove a structure and leave the roof in thin air!'
- If damage occurs and you really don't want this feature regardless of realism, use dev mode - found in options - to 'remove hediff' of damage taken from fallen roofing. (Can't help you if the pawn was crushed entirely, although if they had just died 'resurrect' would do just as good).
You do get a notification. it is called "roof collapse"
And on top of that, make sure to use the "show roofs" tool in the lower right. It is the icon that looks like a little house. This can help show you where there are actually roofs and not just where they are set to be constructed/deconstructed.
Same with removing a wall that supports a ceiling.
