Same here. Though I'm fine with chemical fascinations in drug free colonies. I'm fine with all traits even, ecept body purists. Absolute nutjobs who hate the handicapped and if given the choice between functioning human or vegetable, choose to be a vegetable who insult orphans with 2 peg legs.
The nose destruction, as well as losing eyes before bionics, are also very annoying. The pawns can create entire jaws from scratch but a fake eye/nose, eyepatch, mask or bandana are all too hard apparently.
CE actually more far away from realism then vanila :) Even in your example - if you're intended to fire back into enemy - your torso will be partially vulnerable too.
You're looking for Respect the Scars. Pretty sure it turns the -15 to a +5.
Edit: Just saw your most recent post. There's a mod for that too, but I don't recall the name.
Frank: CE sandbag provides only .6 cover height, and don't really protect pawns chest (when they standing)
Cori: Pawns do crouching with CE installed, so when they don't walk, only their head and hands are out from cover.
But as Frank mentioned, sometimes its more lethal.
And it's many of stupid features of CE.
1) what a @#%$ crouching?! Time scale of rimworld is 1 game "day" is ~ week (!) of real time. So "crouching", "stronger bleeding", and tons of CE are completely breaking main game time scale.
So vanila "weak" cover in fact simulate that pawns are moving around to flank enemies and so on. Plus don't forget - your pawns aren't modern soldiers, there is no artillery, tanks or aircraft to assist them, so they SHOULD participate in direct firefights and they're bloody.
2) how you're intended to hit anything without showing some of your torso from enemy? C'mon, take something large in hands or toy gun - you simply can't make aimed shots without it.

Idk how they intended to hit the enemy when only their heads is out from cover, but sure they are only marines, they dont know how should they do it.
+ in my county we have compulsory military service, when we are 18 yo. Im not a veteran, nor an expert, but i know how to shoot from behind cover, and show only my head + arms to enemy. Believe me, you dont have to show your torso. Head, arms, and shoulder.
