For any others who encounter this, it should be one of the icons in the bottom-right.
Its with the tools that show where roofs currently are, etc.

Nah, I don't think that part is explained terribly well - and the game's tutorial is known for not being perfect.

The G and T commands are in the list of keyboard commands. I found 'em quick.

(when starting out at a new game, I generally look at that and then just push every button on the keyboard at least once, which occasionally produces surprising, alarming, destructive, or otherwise adverse results, but always shows me where the good stuff is)

Usually I stick with the WASD and other basic controls, then when there's a prompt that I don't know about, I open the pause menu in a frantic manner, and finally figure out the controls. I sorta just jump in and learn as I go.

Dude, it's not a Star Destroyer, and there is no self-destruct button. :)

PUSH ALL THE BUTTONS.

(ya know, somewhere out there, there has GOT to be a movie where the hero breaks into the Evil Lair, sneaks into the control room, and uses a cordless screwdriver and four sheet metal screws to bolt a sign onto the main control panel, right above the self-destruct button, saying "DO NOT PUSH")

I just find it to be more enjoyable to run in a video game blind. Most memorable is Undertale. which i barely even knew was popular when I played it. It probably would've been a lot less enjoyable if I knew what to do in that game.

That's a bit like the "PRESS TO TEST" sign.
(followed by "RELEASE TO DETONATE" of course)

Some of my mods seem to cause this, although both beauty analysis tools are toggled off.
