What's the current consensus on lamps in bedrooms?
Last time I played, I think the consensus was that building lamps in bedrooms was a waste of energy, as colonists would only spend waking time in their bedrooms when "meditating" alone for short periods. Any recent change in this consensus?

I've dowloaded the More Furniture mod, which has an End Table (Lamp), which both buffs the bed comfort and acts as a lamp. So I'll probably build these, but always have the lamps set to off.

Yes that is true as well. If you have infestations enabled you absolutely want lights in every room of a mountain base to reduce the chance of bugs spawning in a troublesome area, but this only really works if you have also created darkrooms around the map as "bait" for them to spawn in.

Pawns spend enough time in their rooms that I find it worth it to light them. Especially now that we get rewards for keeping them happy I find it counterproductive to allow "In darkness" modifiers when it is so easily solved by spending just a few metal on a lamp.

They spend a lot of time there, true, but they do so in their sleep - and when they're asleep, their mood modifiers don't progress anywhere. Which means, the only time your 75w (if you're playing without mod that changes that) lamps are only keeping them happier those few seconds it takes for your pawns to navigate their way in and out of the room.

Or pray/meditate in their rooms, or look at art, etc..

Yea I always use light and always have before this change. It was just for aesthetic reasons, but still. Early game it maybe a little hard, but I always have tons of Power with multiple solar panels and geo plants by late game.

you can use mods to reduce the energy usage in rooms. dubs skylights will light the room enough during the day. otherwise the wall lights mod gives a 3 square light radius for 20w.

I use torches only, assuming there's wood available. I prefer the colour and warm ambience of torches, to the cold light of lamps.

The more furniture mod has an orange light you can use.

Pawns don't just spend time in their rooms to sleep. They also meditate and do other joy activities there. By having them spend time doing those in a dark room you are lowering their potential by at least a little.

Dunno about concesus, meta or whatnot. But my pawns houses are usually lit by three lights. One at the entrance, one at the end and another on an endtable right next to the bed. Thats enough to have sufficient light in my 9x12 colonists houses. I like em happy, and if that helps a bit, why not. I have more than 90 lights running in my colony anyways, its not like those would add that much to the energy bill.

And yes, i am running the more efficient light bulb mod. Was the first mod i added to Rimworld back then. Would prefer if there was a research to get more effective lights that cut consumption in half, but as that is not a thing - at least for now, i will have to go with the mod. Decent lighting should not be luxury for pawns that are able to build spaceships.
