What do I need in a bedroom? (Other than a bed)
So I am new to this and I want my people to be happy. What do I need to be inside it? How large should I make them? Is it different for 2 person beds? I have two people who want to be in the same bed together. Currently everyone is in the same room and before I continue I want to know the size/basic parts to have in a room for 1x person bed and 2x person beds. Other discussions say 6x6 or 7x7 for them to be happy. But some give them even smaller rooms.

There's no specific size they need to be, and no items other than a bed they really need. The system is very fluid and is based on an overal score system. Most items add some sort of value or beauty to a room and the higher those scores the better the room buff. Size is one of the things a room is scored on, but a few statues can make up the difference, so small rooms are fine if you want small rooms. Larger rooms are easier to get better scores in without adding art.

It's really up to you. You can make people live in 3 tile rooms to save space or you can go for huge polished bedrooms.

I find:
6 tiles is enough to avoid the worst mood debuffs
9 tiles keeps them neutral
12 tiles you can get positive moods (with good quality beds and floors)

I give my people 5x5 (7x7 including walls) rooms with a double bed, a dresser, a end table, a single light, and a grand marble sculpture of masterwork or legendary quality.

This isn't so much for quality, but efficency, but for long term jobs (such as art, smithing, or research (the latter only in the early game)) I like to put the workbenches in the rooms. For longer jobs, it's more efficent that having them go to the workshop.

I like to have my guys live in comfort.

Walls are 11x11 units. Bed, dresser, end table, 1x2 table, cloth armchair, electric lamp. I like to grow a fair amount of cloth so I can carpet the rooms.

Potted plants are a nice way to spruce it up.

Most of all, keep it clean!

Also, if you make a nice recreation room and dining room, you'll get additional mood buffs.

I usually go with bedrooms that are 6 tiles wide (8 w/walls) and 5 deep (7 w/walls). Add a bed, shelf, plant pot, dresser , end table and light in the early game, and make sure everything is of at least normal or better quality (since furniuture quality effects the room buff), then add a single large wooden sculpture that's excellent or better as i get them made. Most games i can have everyone in at least somewhat impresive rooms by the end of the first week, and once i start adding sculputure they jump to very impressive.

My bedroom minimum is 3x6. This allows to keep the bed away from the wall (for some reason putting the bed against the wall is a debuff). Add a dresser and night stand, dinningroom chair.

Ged the mod that allows ironwood, make all your furniture of that. great beauty multiplyer.

when you get a good artist, add statues.

deconstruct anything less than good, try for masterwork or better items.

Your other size room should be 4x5 with a double bed for couples. Some mods allow marriage, pregnancy and children.

Make sure your bedrooms are near food supplies and entertainment centers.

pretty sure the bed against wall debuff has been removed
now its just total room size that needs to be good
but i might be wrong, i still have my beds in the middle too
