less easy way, plant a few heaters in there and crank up the heat until they die of heatstroke.
hard way, frontal assault.
really hard way, ignore it until some freiendlies come to help and send them in to deal with the bulk of it. then you go in after to clean up and steal ♥♥♥♥.
Once you get the temperature up to 320F through fire bombing the rock walls inside the bug chamber, have your incendiary shooter leave the room and wait outside for about an hour. Then walk back in and jack the temperature back up to 320F and leave. This prolonged temperature will steam the bugs alive and cause them to die of heat stroke. Once most of them have died off send in melee and animals to beat down some of the hives.
Some bugs may still be alive to defend the hive. But not too many should be left standing. You should outnumber them and be able to wipe them out with few injuries.
Worked wonders for me
Also a really good way of getting rid of raider corpses too
Draft your colonists and then click the icon that has their weapon. This will bring up the manual aim. You cannot attack the ground any more so you have to shoot a target. The rock wall is a viable target. Just choose a wall that isn't too close to a bug or hive. If you directly attack a bug they will aggro. But if a bug walks over your fire and gets lit on fire that way then no aggro.
You can see the internal temperature of a room by hovering your cursor over the room and the temperature will be at the bottom right.
But just be aware that your launcher can break the walls. Either replace them with bricks walls of your own or reinforce the outside of the cave, if that's an option. Failing to do so can "unroof" the cave and prevent the oven effect from taking place.
