Question about my Transhumanist?
The only part I have been able to get to do surgery with is a Bionic Spine.

My guy is a great pawn (i think) excpet every few game weeks, he goes on very long depression, locking hiimself in his room well past his needs, i get major warning from him not eating or sleeping, and i cant seem to treat this.

Its from not having a fake body part it says.

Will this spine i have do the trick, the info on it says its just the same as a normal spine, so there is no gain otherwise to putting it in him.

If that is not ideal, could i just cut one of his feet off and put a wooden foot on for him?

im at the stage where im just now starting to research smithing.

A bionic spine satisfies the Transhumanist trait.

is it worth using it on him just so he stops getting depressed, when it wont fill any other need?

like its worth about 1000 bucks wich is alot, i got it from the ancient danger room with cryo pods.

havent opened them yet cause ya, 6 guys in very heavy armor that have nasty weapons. one took over 6 head shots from my best rifleman and was not even bleeding yet at a level that showed time to death lol.

basicly what this guys main thigns are that keep me wanting him is he has the to smart trait, and hes a 10 shooting with a flame on it.

other than that, he has no cant do's or other traits, so just the 2, trans, and smart.

So as a gunner that does not hunt, hes just around as guard and research.

If a peg leg would fill his need, I wonder if that woudl be better right now.

1000 bucks isn't a lot, and you'll be able to get more if another colonist gets his spine damaged. Spines don't get injured very often.

A peg leg will work too, but it makes your colonist slower. A bionic spine has no penalties.

well, i just learned you can see which things have caused mood loss in the needs tab lol, dident realize it had a play by play as well as the sliders, i thought the text lines were just examples of what could cause numbers to go up or down LOL. Feel so Dumb.

turns out this transhuman thing is not really a major on him in the negatives, he has lots of way bigger hits from being turned down by almost every woman in the colony, hes even hitting on the ones that are married.

Aha! Easy solution--in fact, you can solve two unhappiness problems at once here.

To make him more appealing to the ladies, you can simply give him a bionic----

Uhhhh..........never mind.

That aspect of 'the forbidden mod' does not satisfy the requirements of the Transhumanist mood effect... Allegedly. >_>

Myth, can you post a screenshot of that character's mood screen?

Chances are he's getting bigger mood debuffs from other effects, so the mood boost from adding the bionic spine (assuming the surgery goes okay) *might* not be as effective as doing stuff like directing him to go eat a Simple Meal to remove his starvation / putting him in a nicer bedroom / etc. :-)

save the spine for a different occasion. if you have elderly pawns in your colony, there is a chance for them to get various afflicions as they become older.

a bionic spine is nice to have when an old pawn with good skills develops a bad back.

if his only noteworthy skill is shooting, you may also consider getting rid of him if he causes nothing but trouble and tries to woo all the females. as long as he only locks himself up in his room, i guess it's ok. but if he starts social fights with others it may be best to banish or euthanize him. if the other dislike him enough, you may even get a temporary mood bonus on them for getting rid of their rival

This is why he gets depressed easily, Too smart lowers depression endurance treshold , these guys have to be watched more closely. Try giving him some weed when his mood gets too low every other day.

I would schedule him for a new spine.

The reason is fairly simple - It's a good implant. He's a transhumanist. You have a solution for a problem immediately at hand and it's a good choice if you have a good Doctor and the necessary facilities. Why not solve the problem, now?

Yes, his issue is being rejected by women. OK, that's something you can work on by finding more women to recruit! But, you don't have that solution at hand right now, do you? No.

The issue is none of the above, really. It's that his mood eventually gets so low, due to an accumulation of issues, that he gets depressed and retreats to his room, making him useless. OK, then attack the problem, a low mood score, by implementing the solutions you have at hand - Artificial Spine.

A peg leg is the lowest possible solution for an artificial limb. Cheap. But, it comes with movement penalties. So, what are you doing, there? Adding a movement penalty, reducing his effectiveness at... moving, and basically setting yourself up to replace it later with a bionic limb. It's a "temporary" solution to a permanent problem. The artificial spine is a permanent solution to a permanent problem that will also have a benefit, mood bonus, and no downside. (Provided the operation has no complications.)

But, artificial spines are rare... and a situation could develop where you might really need it. But, that's where there's a "Player" making the decisions. :)

I'd also give him something else to do. When you say he's a guard, does that basically mean he's standing around all day? If he has nothing better to do, sure, he's gonna go hit on all the women. Does he have any other passions or interests than just shooting? Even with a low skill score he will get better over time if you keep him working at it. Pawns can be single long term just fine, but when you get one that's constantly being turned down over and over and just won't quit trying, the cumulative mood hits are gonna be a problem. Give the guy something to do.
