Wind Turbine Inside your main base?
Before I go and spend hours on a main base I want to make sure a few things will work or not.

1. If i put wind turbines inside my base walled in but with no roof will they funcion as normal wind turbines or will they be useless?

2. I'm assuming solar panels will work as long as their is no roof walled in?

3. Is there any penalty for having batteries a good distance away from their main source of electricity?

Thanks

1. The wind turbine will work just fine if there is no roof or obstruction over it/its zone in-front & behind.

2. Solar will work just fine as long as its not covered by a roof

3. No

As long as there are no obstructions in it's footprint then no. Crops (except trees) do not count. Walls don't matter as long as they're placed far enough outside the white zone. Batteries are already their own penalty since they cause your power lines to explode - frequently.

Great, thanks

By the way, if you haven't already figured it out, solar panels CAN go in the footprint of the wind turbine.

Be wary of the fact that if you place a solar panel next to a wall, it may be in shade at some times of day. Thus producing less electricity than normal.

yup, the same effect with plants. they grow slower. always 2 tiles space(unroofed) needed.

That is not a thing. At least at this point. Unless that is a very recent change, I've tested it in the past, think in A12 or A13.

you are right i just built some walls next to one and it is the same.

hm always thought it would be that way with 2 tiles space.
i remember having had problems somehwere, but maybe it was related to buggy roofing and less sunlight in some earlier builds.

Yeah, the game engine DRAWS long shadows in the morning or evening...but it doesn't actually take these shadows into account when calculating solar panel output or plant growth. Of course, Tynan might decide to change that in the future; it's probably just not something he considers important enough to implement for now.
