Otherwise no.
Problem is it only scrolls sideways and not up/down, which is a really silly limitation.
Not really since there's no sense in both horizontal and vertical scrolling. It's not the problen of the game that mods clutter the research screen, and there are still lines being drawn from tech to tech if anyone can be bothered to follow them.
I will say, however, that'd it'd be easier if there were tabs such as "Furniture," "Weapons/Armor," or even "Power." But honestly, for now, there's no [real] issue with the screen as is.
It is a problem when the game allows research to go off screen, like this http://i.imgur.com/vB0yrFL.jpg I have no way of clicking what the line goes to.
I'd personally like to be able to switch between the old "list" style and the new graphical tree style for this reason.
or code it that way it only adds to the right side.
Not sure what you meant by '"queues" all techs from different mods after another' but what I mean is that Fluffy's tech tree mod used to allow you to set research order similar to how both Civ V And VI do it.
just sort them behind the vanilla techs with a mod that autoamtic creates columns after another for new techs from mods.
yeah like in civ.
Fluffy's mod was able to completely re-organize them and setup the correct looking tree for what you needed. Though there might have been a couple techs that had notes or something weird so that it didn't get to messy with prerequisites. It's been so long, I'm not completely positive on some of the finer points anymore. Think A12 was the last time that mod was operational.
