Best Location to Start?
So, I used to always go for Mountaineous and Rainforest combined, hoping to find 2 soft type rocks and 1 hard. One soft for beds, another for statues to sell and the hard one for buildings. I just play for fun and expanding my group. Where's the best place to start as it seems mountaineous and rainforest cannot goexist. Also, not sure the best temperature range to go for. Highest is 160ish. I wasn't expecting that.

The best start (In my opinion) would be a mountainous temperate forest with a year-round growing season

Mountainous with year round growing is the best place for starting for sure, dig into the mountain for the base and you plant crops outside.

Only issue really is bug infestations
I tend to prefer simple wooden bases until I make enough bricks stonecutting. But, I should try that.

Mountain bases also give you (most of the time) an easy option for defense, since you can find an area you can easily wall off.

Having tons of wood is especially good now, since you can turn it into fuel for launch pods

Yes they can. I have some near me in my game. I didn't build there though, I went for flat land because I want to do a ton of farming.
I farm easily enough with a 3x3 farming grid.
What's a 3x3 for me?

5X5 grids in a 3X3 grid.
25 plots per crop.
Potato
Rice
Corn
Strawberry
Healroot
Hops
Cotton(Eventually nixed for Devilstrand or something else)
Haygrass (I at one point decided to breed chickens when a trader came by. Totally worth it. Sell chicks for money. Also got ahold of 2 muffalo. Figured why the heck not.)
Smokeleaf, because money.

I end up stopping farming entirely, probably wasting usable space because my fridges get full.
My fridges are 5X5 as well, as are bedrooms. I might need to read a guide.
I have a thing for 5X5.

5x5 is very small.
but for 3-6 people a little farming is enough.

I am specifically going for a drug growing and manufacturing colony this time. Selling as much as I can to every trader, possibly sending out caravans and drop pods to sell at towns, and buying the other resources I need. I'm starting with 8 plots that are 11x11 and will probably expand from there. To make it more interesting all my starting colonists have chemical fascination, which is already going exactly as horribly as I predicted it would.

drug addicted colony was my a16 unstable playthrough.

I think I've gotten as high as 9 people. I end up having so much excess from raw ingredients.
I send people out often to gather half eaten animal corpses if I can. That's probably part of the reason. To top it off, lategame I would buy raw meat from a trader or two to fill up a fridge or two. Note, I wasn't even using human corpses for meat/leather. I tend to keep everything, and I've recently tried human corpses. It's meat and from now on I'm going to make a fridge specifically for human corpses now. :3

Ya I already grabbed the mod that makes harvesting organs from prisoners not cause a huge morale hit. Plus Glittertech for the advanced organs. Can't get lung cancer with bionic lungs I expect.
I wonder what the best size for a bedroom is though.
I have it set as a total of 7x7, with an interior of 5X5.
I have room for Bed, Animal Bed, Potted Plant, Light, largest sculpture and then that's all I usually put in there.

I find they sometimes get a cramped environment in a 5x5 bedroom, it depends on how long they stay in there while awake to like pray or meditate (while sleeping it doesn't matter). I haven't noticed it happen with a 5x7 room which is what I have been using for a while. With the changes to rooms you might want to cram more decorations in there as well.
