But without a mod, I overcame it by using 2-3 researchers all the time until getting to the space ship (at that point, there wasn't something that I felt was always "in a hurry" to get, so I just let one researcher take care of it)

I also thought the tribal group may change research points but as I went along and realized that they didn't, I was glad I had extra peons on research already anyway, so their INT skill was up higher already for the higher-cost research items.
x01 and x02 are, effectively, Enclave armor variants from way back in F02, and then re-designed somewhat for Fallout 3 and New Vegas.
Personally, design-wise, I prefer Brotherhood's new signature t45 armor (starting with F3, that is; before that, it was t51b).
