what are the best fibers / leathers for clothing?
I was told for warm alpaca was the best, and that the devilstring i think its called has the most defense.

Does that sum it up?

Thumbro, hyperweave and devilstrand. In no specific order each have their own benifits

i would always pick alpaca due to how easy it is to maintain in relation to the other options.

Whats 'best' is situational. Depends on your needs and access to what textiles you have available. What's best for an Ice biome will be vastly different than the dessert. Doesn't really matter if one textile has better protection over another if you don't have access to it.

Look at what you have available, determine your needs then hit up the wiki and compare textiles.

Would devilstrand parka work for cold Tundra?

Cloth parka would be sufficient for tundra.
Use parkas for the cold and dusters for the warm.
Doesn't really matter too much what material you use. Sure you'll get some extra bonuses, but they aren't necessary. I use whatever textile for their appearance more than any other factor.

devilstrand parkas are a poor choice not great defence and use a lot of material, plus slower work. Wear a wool parka for super cold and change into a devilstrand jacket or duster for combat a wool torque boosts warmth a lot.

Honestly if you have access to one of the wool types don't even bother with parka's anymore. A decent wool duster will cover just about any temperature range in the game with the help of a tuque.

True, however, in the early game or when any new pawn first appears on a map and it's -30 degrees outside, I will order them to grab the first available parka no matter what ;)
Later in the game, when I have a wool production option in my apparel production chain, there will of course be plenty of variation in warm clothing options. Until then though, the choice remains the same... parkas in cold and dusters in warm biomes.

Jacket defends against heat, parka defends against cold, duster does both...preferably wool for ultimate temperature defense.
AlexMBrennan Dec 3, 2017 @ 9:40am
Alpaca wool button shirt, pants
Because pants/shirts barely insulate I would have thought that they'd be good candiates for non-insulating fabrics (i.e. devilstrand).

Jacket defends against heat
Wiki says no http://rimworldwiki.com/wiki/Jacket

No, it does not. Leather is better than Devilweave (although only by a few decimal points) but when it comes to temperature concerns, it rarely matters what you make clothes out of.

Parkas are the best torso gear for the cold, but Dusters are better for the heat. The best fabric to use for your Dusters is camel hair, which is harvested from... camels. More spefically, Dromedary camels.

When it comes to Parkas, Megasloth Wool is actually the best by .1% Muffalo is second best. Oddly enough, Camel Hair is 4th best. (Dromedary's are actually the most versitile and useful domesticatables as far as I'm concered)

As for armor... There are two types of damage, blunt and sharp. When it comes down to it, Thrumbo hair has a whopping defense rating of 3 sharp and 3.5 blunt, far superior to Devilstrand's 1.8 and 1.3. Of course, actually killing Thrumbo's is boderline impossible, but it's worth noting that when you're going into defense you'll be looking more into metals than cloth.

Nonsense. I kill them all of the time. Sure, you don't want to try it with tribal weapons, but revolvers and rifles are enough to do the job.

Luci would work better^ if they don't get more they will die, but it's still easy to kill them late Game
