How do I pick up Bedrolls for my Caravan?

I have some bedrolls but I see no means to "pick them up" or add them to my caravan. How does that work?

You need to uninstall the bedroll-furniture. Then it becomes an item an you can assign it to a caraval like the other wares.

Ah, but you can't.. When you start a caravan, you can't pick up other weapons or bedrolls, even if they are in storage

Yes you can, select one of the caravan colonists, now right click on the object and select "Add to caravan" or what ever the job is called this adds additional items to the caravan after the caravan has started forming.

But you still kinda need those bedrolls to be "boxed" rather then installed.

have them stored in your storage warehouse/room.
when you are forming a caravan, and picking items/people, the bedrolls will be items you can include in the caravan.
Your colonists in the caravan will automatically use the bedrolls.

I must be missing a key point here but I can't seem to get a bedroll into storage for caravan use. Storage is set to Bedroll but if I try to uninstall into the zone the zone disappears. There is no 'pack up' or 'move' option. Can't build one into it. Can's add to Caravan inventory. Mechanically, how is it done?

I realize this is not the finished game but one would think being able to add an important item like a Bedroll would be a more straightforward task.

No idea what you are talking about. If you have a bedroll, make sure it is uninstalled off the ground and set into any storage zone while in its box. Then you can add it to caravan right from the items list like any other item in the game.

I took some bedrolls on my last trip and they still complained the whole way with the "slept on the ground" debuff. They didn't use them when they slept at the destination either, they all just slept on the ground, so I don't know how this works

!. The bedroll needs to be hauled to storage by a pawn as an uninstalled item.
2. You need the Use Bedroll mod to get them to work.

Bed rolls increase their comfort and allow them to recover sleep faster:

Except that they don't in vanilla. They seem buggy, they can't be stored anywhere, they don't appear in the items inventory (when uninstalled) and if manually packed into a caravan they still aren't used. The post above says it needs a mod to work, I will look into that

1) This is 4-5 year old necro
2)The actual vanilla behavior regarding bedrolls and caravans:
Stored in stockpile zones when set to accept them (buildings->furniture->bedroll/double bedroll), does not go on shelves
Show up in travel supplies when making a caravan
Caravaneers automatically use them during move when rest period comes, doesn't carry a debuff for missing them, just makes them satisfy sleep faster
If on map you need carrier to drop them and install

If that's not what you're experiencing, then you have something breaking things up.

Yes, this has been an issue long time now with caravaning. Even if you give them bedrolls with on the trip, they use them not still.
There is a mod "Sleep in Bedrolls" helping with that. Anyway, some mods make caravaning fun and interactive, while pure vanilla can be bit meh, and is subject to several bugs.

That mod and I believe one of the minify mods causes them to endlessly uninstall then reinstall a bedroll and never actually use it, of course that may have been fixed by now

Wrong, tested this on dev-maps in different runs. And while bedrolls show up in inventory, unfortunately, they aren't used still for x reason.
There are actually also different reports for different bugs with caravanes, such as caravane not entering target locations.
Honestly, i would love bedrolls working in more reliable manner, but at this moment i found only a mod doing it so i can be 100.% sure they will.
