Duration of social effects
Hi dear fellows,

here is another episode of our never-ending rimworld soap: So two of my colonists, which happen to be the most valuable ones, got married and made a happy couple for quite some years.
Then, a vicious group of "The Fists" attacked the colony with sinister intentions and did not engage in only mere fist fight.
The industrious brave fighter he is, [HUSBAND] went out to defend the colony. With the certainty of a sleepwalker, he mowed through the enemy lines and put the hostile forces to rout. Him, and the 30 machine gun turrets which may have also played a minor role.
Coming back to celebrate the victory, [HUSBAND] gets apprehended by an angrily [WIFE], screaming hysterically at [HUSBAND].
Between the fallen enemy troops is the mother of [WIFE], who has been shot to death by a magnificient long-range snipe into the right shoulder, amputating the arm and killing the subject in the process.
So [HUSBAND] is really f***** because now he will not get 'some lovin' for quite some time.

QUESTION:

How long?

- Colonist A killed [relative] of Colonist B and therefore gets a deduction to social relation. ("Killed my mother" with a hefty [-80]
- Allthough not affecting the mood anymore (debuff ran out) the deduction from Colonist B towards Colonist A remains

Will this ever run out? All the other relations change over time, but this seems persisent.

Greetings

You need to change out work schedules if htye don't work close together change their free time, or joy times so they don't run into each other trying to relax, if they do spend a lot of time near eachother and its a problem well time to make shifts so they sleep diffrent theretore eat at diffrent times and what not. You could go extreme and do them night shift, or simply let one sleep in 2-3 hours to make them not link up that often in the base to insult or fight.

Its just like managing a group in real life you don't want two rivals who hate each other on the same ♥♥♥♥ in the same room or area, just like if they are fighting you move their lunch breaks. That our fire or transfer one but we can't do that here so you got seperate them its mangment 101.

Oh list of social things to be aware of http://rimworldwiki.com/wiki/Social Doesn't say but pretty damn positive killing family is a permant hate for them...

Is there any known fix? Best would be ingame but i'd accept other methods too. This is so totally annoying that when someone shot a relative in defense of the colony that he'll get a social debuff for all eternity.

To see how long debuffs last just hover over them with your cursor, should show the time until the debuff is gone.

I doubt there is one minus editing files. What you do is you get that notice they are related then order them to shoot every one but that one, so a turret kills them or you sick a melee with a mace or club to knock them out if they are are melee combant.

That is only fix i know is click on them hit pause and order them to fucos fire every one but the ralative... I mean at thsi point its not part of the story for taht run that some killed their family, there is no way to undo that in vanilla. Vanilla's biggest problems tend to be social ones so like I said before you got swap around work shifts to avoid conflict or kill that pawn if its an issue. Otherwise save scum and go back and not shoot the relative.

I mean don't matter if it was self defense or not to most people if you kiled their family, maybe they could learn to live with it better, but they are not gonna be your freind ever unless you didn't like that person... And were also a suspect in the death...

Update: After a long time, i think it were 2-3 years, the social debuff went off. So it goes away after some time, but i don't know what plays into the time span.
I think this comes from a mod called Psychology, but [HUSBAND] and [WIFE] had some real deep talks about Philosophy with like +120 and and Life with +60 and were both on 100 relations despite the -80 debuff. After these mentioned years, [WIFE] forgave [HUSBAND] and the debuff ran off, resulting in the pair not talking to each other anymore and the relations sinking to ~40, from what are +30 alone from being spouses.
Maybe killing the mother of [WIFE] wasn't so bad after all...

So, what you are saying is that I accidentally saved myself a lot of trouble by accidentally having a son shoot his escaping prisoner mother with a LMG?

If anyone else had done it, they would have had that -80. Since he did it, he can only hate himself.

This is correct.

Colonists hate others killing their family (makes sense) but they're okayish with doing it themselves. They still take a mood penalty for seeing a loved one die though.

Look up rimworld/thoughts on the wiki, should have you covered.
