making benches from diff materials
workbenches can be made from wood, steel, silver, etc.

is there any reason to make workbenches from anything other than wood/steel? is there a benefit? does a steel bench work faster than a wood one? why so many options? are they just there for options sake?

Benches? I've never heard of them in the vanilla game (unless you're talking about some type of workbench. But workbenches can't be made from different materials).

But steel and plasteel furniture are basically almost always much more durable (and way more fire resistant, but steel for some reason still can catch on fire, it just doesn't burn as well as wood). If you have a surplus of steel, use steel furniture. If you have way too many stone blocks, use stone furniture because they aren't flammable at all and are also extremely durable.

edited op for clarity

yeah! tailoring and stonecutting workbenches CAN be made from wood/steel/silver (just off the top of my head) in vanilla

for some reason i just assumed that a steel bench would work faster than a wood one, silver faster again, realised it was an assumption and decided to ask
Oops! I had absolutely no idea that they could be made from different materials. I've just been making them from wood!

I just looked it up on the wiki and it's as I said: The materials only change durability and flammability (although you can't build them from stone). They don't increase work speed at all.

Now that you mention it though, I think it would make sense for a workbench made of plasteel to be more efficient that one made from steel, which is more efficient than one made from wood.

nah, a plasteel butchertable would wreck your knife, but a wood one would be harder to clean

but in game its just aestetics and whatever you have
suppose you have used all your steel on the map and your growing season doesnt work for wood you can still grow lots of drugs sell it for silver and build your butchertable out of silver instead
having options is nice

yeah, if im making a solid gold workbench i wanna get something out of it! if it works like wood, then, why bother? gotta be a bragging / RP thing, a "solid gold base" (#thuglyfe)

either that or maybe add durabilty-use to workbenches, so a wooden stoncutters looses durability thru use, less for a steel one, less for jade, less for plasteel...

room value, it makes people happy
but also increases raid size so might not be a great plan

In vanilla gameplay, no. Fire resistance amd value are really the only differences.

There are mods that make materials matter to working speed. For instance, you'll find that in the HardcoreSK modpack.

i had a look thru the modpack, but couldn't see which one, did u know its name?

I believe that was one of the mods absorbed in completely. So, it is now probably part of the CoreSK 'mod'.
