Is it worth it to build plasteel turrets?

No,no.Even if you're in late-game and have lots of plasteel, don't bother. They are only useful for early game, and even then they have too big of a value, making raids against you stronger.
Turret out of plasteel is worth 1320-a price of an average pawn..and pawn is way better than some pathetic turret.

Well, just try not to build any more of them.Even with 280hp they are quite fragile, and the damage they deal is..well..meh.The only real use they have is that you can abuse AI (sappers will try to attack you where you have least of turrets)

I'm sorry, but I disagree.
In that case, you offset the wealth handicap by keeping your quantity of colonists and wealth artifacts low.
I like to build colonies of no more than 10 or so colonists and using my spider as part of my defense strategy is well proven. I have used this successfully in many games. The spider consists of a formation of 24 plasteel turrets. I have built them from steel and plasteel. It is extemely advisable to build them from plasteel imo. The extra hp makes a huge difference and they are far more durable. I have spent far too much time having to repair and rebuild steel turrets, while hardly ever having to do so when using plasteel.

Obviously, my mobile colonists shooting from cover are the main defense and one should never just rely on turrets, but when combined, they make an extremely effective solution.
The deadfall traps at each of the entryways are also plasteel but for the killing power, not for durability.

The only reason I use turrets is because I have the more vanilla turrets mod installed, which makes turrets not suck.

Vulcan Cannon FTW!

Is the Vulcan Cannon any good? I haven't had a colony last long enough (i keep restarting) to research turrets. Gun Complex is often enough to deal with Raiders and the occasional Mad Animal.

Vulcan cannon is good but you should support it with a few turrets because it cannot hit targets at point blank range.

Surely if the Vulcan Cannon is in place no raider would even be hugging the thing ;)

When you have a raid of 2 dozen+ people, chances are some of them will get close even if you have a Vulcan Cannon ;)

To answer OP's question, in vanilla RimWorld, no, it's not worthwhile. Plasteel could be better used for other things, such as walls or making weapons and armour.

With the addition of mods, such as More Vanilla Turrets or Extended Turrets, plasteel becomes an absolutely fantastic material to build them out of.

As a further note, yes, the Vulcan "Cannon" (since we all know it's a bloody minigun, not a cannon) is insanely strong, but does require some short-range support. TWO Vulcans spaced about 20 spaces apart, however... ;)

plasteel walls? no its better used for turrets
it more then doubles a turrets hp so even if raiders reach it it will rarely go down so you dnt lose the resourses
a few steel turrets will go down in every mayor raid
plasteel turrets will not, so in the long run it will save you resourses as long as you dont rely on turrets alone
the main advantage of turrets is that they draw aggro making raids safe for your colonists and in that plasteel makes a single turret worth more then two

Touche, kind sir or madam. Cool stuff, actually; although it does kinda mean that Vulcan turrets should have buffed damage, since a 20/30mm round would do more than "6 HP" ingame, like the Vulcans do now 0.0

Personally I don't use turrets at all, as they create positions you must defend to avoid resource loss, and are vulnerable to being outranged or grenade spammed. The chickens + colonists method has minimal risk (if any die, you just mix the rest with roosters for a bit) and can adapt to unusual circumstances.
