I cannot see how full a hopper is. How do i see this? My guys put x1 stack of 75 meat on the hopper thats it and it disappears i am assuming into the dispenser? But no way to measure how much is in there.

There is 75 meat in the hopper it's stored in the hopper

If it's gone it was used up

It doesn't produce meals in advanced only when a colonist uses it.

The dispenser is highly efficient

Which is a fancy way of saying that it's useless: If a solar flare happens you are screwed because you can't print any meals in advance. You can't use it to feed animals. You can't sell it. It breaks hauler AI (haulers carry 75 corn to the stockpile, dumping the corn in multiple squares if necessary but if one guy prints a meal they will immediately pick up 6 corn and haul 6 corn to the hopper).

So yeah, good call not using the dispenser.

it's not a preferred system, but it's there in case you need it. In my case, no one can cook. In other cases, folks picking ice sheet or extreme desert will find it best to make every potato count. But in every case where you -can- conceivably use alternates, do.

If the hopper feeding the dispenser is not in a refrigerated area it could be that the meat is rotting away. Meat and food items disappear when they rot away. If you think that may be the case you can put the back end of the dispenser in your refrigerator and the front end in your cafeteria. The dispensor is so large it acts as a wall so the refrigerated room in back with the hoppers stays cold and the cafeteria in front remains at room temperature.
The nutrient paste dispenser is useful if you have no cooks or cannot spare a colonist for cooking. If you have a cook to spare then preparing meals is superior. In my current playthrough I have 5 colonists so far and not a single one is a good cook so I have to use it. The colonists hate eating the goop, though, but it won't be forever.

its great and u can print meal in advance i believe its an option on the machine but i might be wrong and its part of a mod tho i dont use any mods for this purpose so think its vanila. personaly i use the nutrient dispenser for my prisons so i dont need to waste time feeding prisoners and it will be there as an emergency food scource to

It's better to eat raw food. Eating something like raw rice is basically the same penalty as nutrient paste, and eating raw berries is no penalty and simply better in that situation.

The only situation where the nutrient paste dispenser is really useful is when food is extremely limited and starvation is a very real risk. If you are starting on sea ice with the default crash landing materials, you only have enough resources to build a few hydroponics and the nutrient paste dispenser is vital to early survival as it makes the rice you grow feed more.

As mentioned they are also decent for prisons.

Also, you'll never get food poisoning from eating nutrient paste. If your cook is a disaster, it can be a serious matter.

Also, this mod

allows to manually dispense nutrient paste, so you can store it or feed animals with it.
