Pain Management
I feel like I'm missing something basic. My pawns have chronic from various scars and amputations. Is there a way to manage their pain? I've tried anaesthetise but it doesn't seem to do anything. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thank you!

EPOE. It has a syntethic skin which can be used to cure old wounds, but it is pretty high-tech stuff. If it is a limb, you can replace it with a prostetic or bionic one.

Painstopper implants and drugs also work and lower the pain.

Not sure why scars hurt though. I have scars.. They don't cause chronic pain..

its the underlying tissue damage / you didn't do it right......

i have a 9cm scar accross the back of my left hand and index finger, result of a fish filleting knife that went straight in the centre of my hand through the finger before comming out, hurts like a mofo sometimes for zero reason.

There does seem to be a lack of pain management available for the treatment options in Rimworld, ie no painkillers or the like. No slings for arm injuries etc

All you have is pleasure drugs, which just opens up a whole other can of worms or an expensive implant called a painstopper.
I suppose a roundabout way is installing a bionic arm/leg or a peg leg to deal with pain though that doesn't help with Torso injuries (which are probably the most common due to how big the torso is).

I sort of understand why it's there though, it punishes people who don't use good doctors to treat wounds or have a lack of medicine. But I don't think scars should have a blanket X amount of damage = X amount of pain. Injuries just don't work like that.

So yeah, bionics, drugs, peg legs, painstopper are your options.
Could always try the dev mode if it's bothering you too much though. Just go easy when using dev mode or the temptation will kill you everytime your colonists get an injury.

Outside of that injuries are something to look for in colonists when recruiting, they are a bad thing to have. Especially early in the game because you really don't need the hits to mood when you barely have food/shelter setup.

Other scars (large or small) often times destroy the nerves associated with that area though, which is why you lose feeling on the scar tissue in most cases.

Yes you can still have some that hurt, but every scar on Rimworld causes everyone constant (chronic) pain and in some cases large amounts of pain. Seems a bit unreasonable.

Though I guess they could just be like druggies who come into ERs where they are having a 15/10 on the pain scale until they get (or don't is more often the case) the drug they want.

luciferium can cure scars and things over time. But I wouldn't recomend having more than 1 to 2 pawns on it as they need regular doses 5-6 days of it. Or they go beserk and if left untreated will die. its pretty expensive to by too like 180 dollars around a pill.

Bionic parts though is the best. But if multi pawns are in pain and say you have 1 bionic arm, give it to your in pain crafter pawn to speed up thier crating.

Machoistic trait makes pawns gain a positive mood from being in pain (Quite handy)

This. I've always seen scar pain as a balance thing - temporary decreased mood no matter what, and if you happen to skip a doctoring, it can get even worse.
Try to give them something to balance the pain - more spacious bedroom, more beautiful piece of art, better meal, one additional hour of joy daily.
Also, I use the mod "Psychology" - if I'm not mistaken, this is exactly the one that gives you possibility to craft painkillers if you have to. Takes some neutroamine,

Thank you everyone for the feed back. This has been incredibly helpful for ,y colony (and future ones!). I didn't realize how much doctoring played a role in this game besides immediate life saving

I recommend you to use RBSE mod, it has way to cure old and recent permanent injuries without giving you overpowered bionics... or at least not too overpowered compared to the vanilla game.

some scars accumulate. I guess a mutliated arm with 8 gun-shot wounds will hurt more than 1 or 2 well treated scratches
