Growing seasons or constant growing season?
I just feel like going for a place where you can constantly grow crops makes the game generally a whole lot easier but also boring due to a lack of clear seasons. I was just curious as to what most people generally go for and why?

There's a trade-off, depending on your difficulty - most areas that have constant growing seasons are also much more likely to get hit with diseases, which will make your pawns bed-ridden for a while and requires a decent stream of medicine.

Personally, I typically hit up boreal forests. I'll either bulk up my freezer with several weeks' worth of meals, or I'll make a greenhouse (plant around a sunlamp and then wall it in).

Are you referring to rainforests? As I have seen areas other than rainforests with a constant growing season, in which case there is no trade off .

I played on an arid shrubland biome, but hardly noticed a difference between summer and winter. The map felt timeless.

Nowadays I prefer boreal forest. I use a couple of greenhouses to grow smokeleaf, healroot and hops, and during summer, spam haygrass and rice in outdoor fields in preparation for winter.

Believe me. Rainforests are hell in higher difficulties.. I play Cassandra rough in a Rainforest, constant disease pretty much
Edit: Did I mention the aggressive Animals killing all your pets? The constant rain for lowered gun accurracy? The overgrowth having to cut grass and trees constantly in your growing zones making it hard to sow stuff? The high temperatures for heatstrokes? I can go on mate

It doesn't make a difference really. A map with growing seasons just means you have more motivation to setup greenhouses fairly quickly. The "extra challenge" is building a few more solars and a couple sun lamps in your first year, which isn't an issue unless you are playing tribal. If you are tribal you just double the size of your usual growing zones and stockpile rice/corn for the winter, you don't need to worry about freezing it. Growing large amounts of extra crops is easy, the hardest part is storing it all.

Or...Just play tribal and don't research? ♥♥♥♥ wasting a pawn standing there doing nothing.

progress is nice, even if its really slow
you can research during the winter months while your other colonists craft
not like there is a lot of things to do during the winter months unless a herd is passing by

I may have to do a tribal play with Medieval Times soon.

dont know about a17 but in a16 medieval was a bit op
he countered it by making buffed raids but the mod lets you get infinite resourses, taking away some of the challenge that brings leaving only the challenge of combat
was fun, but something to consider

I'm very tempted myself. A friend of mine started one and he's loving it. Feels especially fun as pets should be more valuable in combat.

Playing one right now where we don't use guns and added a small amount of zombies via Zombieland and it's a blast.

Stock piling food every year gets stupid boring. Then if your past needing research winter is even less to do.

Its also annoying when every pawn needs two sets of clothing (Summer and winter)

And on maps with winter you can get sudden coldsnaps. And some maps devilstrand just ain't doing well.

I've had colonies before where food is so tight, that to make winter food that growing and harvestingis about all that gets done until winter starts.

Even without a cold winter you still need some stockpile due to toxic fallout.

Theres not even like any benefit to freezing winter (Even on ice sheet) raiders are always perfectly dressed to never be bothered by it.

All that said, I usually just settle in whatever biome I feel like. Depending on animals I want to see that game. Or if I want an extra challenge like say jungle. I actively avoid desert bases as they are much too easy a biome.

What biome do you play? I found that a wool duster + tuque or parka + wool cowboy hat combo works. It'll fit most biomes.
