I go with two different farms, one cecropia and one oak. Cecropia for the "now" (As now as trees can ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ get, more like 3 years) and oak for the "later" (read, 15 years).

*disclaimer, quoted numbers may be tainted with salt and hence inaccurate.
Cool, thanks mate.

I usually go for oak myself.
Thanks for this. My colony's in arid shrubland so I'm pretty scarce on wood. And I thought pine trees were the most useful, since they have a medium growing time and yield a medium amount of wood :P

Well, I'll follow your advice.

Cecropia: 25 days, 20 wood, 0.8 per day
Birch/Pine: 36 days, 30 wood, 0.8 per day
Poplar: 27 days, 30 wood, 1.1 per day
Oak: 54 days, 50 wood, 0.9 per day
Teak: 59 days, 60 wood, 1 per day

For getting it fast, use poplar. If you don't need it soon use teak.
Ok looks good. Thanks ignis

What I do, and I haven't seen anyone ever mention it yet, is to set a large area of forested land to crops without planting enabled... over time trees and stuff will regro and then colonists just go over and harvest stuff when it's ready.
I also will have a couple good sized plots set to a crop like corn or hay grass , and then just before winter when the crop is starting to be ready to harvest, I change it to trees... the trees get planted and the crop gets harvested. But you will be waiting a couple years in some biomes to have the trees mature.

I noticed the wiki doesn't have info on several trees, has anyone found this info elsewhere?

I tend to grow something which is already on the map, because then I know that's the general temperature that this kind of tree can grow in. However, once I adapt to making greenhouses for everything, then other kinds of trees are possible, too, regardless of biome's native trees. In that case, it's purely up to what speed or quantity of tree you want.
