Playing vs. Watching

[HTF]

I bought this game after watching several let's plays (mostly quill18) but little after an hour i felt kind of bored and realised i rather just watch my favorite youtubers play this game than play it my self. Anyone else had the same feeling?

I absolutely HATE watching people play. If it's some kind of comedy playthrough, then alright but "serious" gaming? Total waste of time.

I enjoy both things for different reasons. Most let's players I watch tend to do things I didn't thought about before, so I take the chance to learn. But a good part of what draws me to this game is planning, building and seeing stuff work, like KSP in a sense. I can't get that by watching someone else play. But the situations that happen and the way different players deal with them can certainly be entertaining.

I find let's plays very interesting to watch, so long as its not the same player time and again as they tend to constantly use the same strategies. This way you can see progressions and tactics you may not have thought of, such as using a narrow 1 space hallway for AC ducts, or finding a good way to use Fueled generators as opposed to the standard solar/wind combo.

Things can change a little when they install mods though. For example, I don't tend to watch players that use the OP turrets mod. Makes raids really boring.

I have only felt this way towards the South Park video games because most of the fun in those games is experiencing things for the first time.

No, Quill18 doesent even know how to play this. Hes not good in this kind of games.

I watch quill18 all the time, and have felt this way about several of the games he plays, but not rimworld.

Also try blitzkriegsler as well, he does some good rimworld let's play, an somehow even with a cannibalistic tribe manages to keep it family friendly.

I often get this feeling with other games, but absolutely not with this one! This is one of the games with so much flexibility that nobody ever plays it the way I would want to, so any time I watch a let's play I just keep thinking "no, what are you doing?! do this instead!" and want to play it myself rather than watch.

Nope, i just have a different opinion than most people towards this game and that's ok.
Everyone have their own opinion, most like to play this and i like to watch youtubers/twitch streamers play.

I have watched quite a few youbute videos...and I really cant say I have seen a single person who really knows how to play the game well.

It just ends up getting old watching them mistake after mistake, or Fast Forwarding through Major Breaks or events without even checking whats going on.

Then you just end up watching them somehow half ass it through raids and survive by some miracle...until finally their luck runs out.


Its great for learning or finding new tips or tricks from time to time...but between the mods, poor gameplay etc...would much rather play it myself.

I'm on and off. Sometimes I like to get in the thick of it and do things my way, and other times I just want to sit back and watch another person's tactics and style.

Yeti is the only Rimworlder I watch regularly though. He has the voice, the intelligence, and the humor and knows how to play the game. Couldn't get into Quill18 because his Cassandra Extreme was a nightmare. Aavak and Toxic Timewaster are cool too, but TT tends to play way too fast and minimalistically for me.
