Animals not hauling?
My army of haulers:

http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/94973556559432840/A4C25E499472616F44FD223D0E3E964A520DA726/

For some reason, they will only haul stuff around my base.

Like this:

http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/94973556559529213/A91BA7EF587C3F0D0B30D0D23C6C0FCB68D8F150/

They won't haul the meals or chunks you can see in the picture, or anything else on the map, only stuff inside my base i think. It keeps bugging out (sometimes when i reload they start hauling outside of base then randomly stop again).

Zone set up and everything.

Mods installed:

Hugslib

Crafting hysteresis

Selling with no guilt

Hauling hysteresis

I can fix it!

"Zone set up and everything." ok but it's the only thing I can think off -> that the animals are in a seperate zone so they are not allowed to reach the things to transport

/edit: or that they are not trained to haul

In the screenshot you can see clearly this is any of that.
He got hauling animals, set as unrestricted and there is a way to go outside for them.

Try to play without hauling hysteresis.
Maybe there is a bug with animals in this mod.

Animals don't look very far for hauling jobs (or anything really), you are never going to get them reliably hauling from across the map. That's just a limitation you have to deal with.

What? that's completly untrue. Distance is not a factor at all for hauling, especially with animals.

That's what i'm thinking. I'll turn the mod off tomorrow and see if it works.

Yes it is true. Animals have a very limited range for what they are looking at to save CPU cycles because people often have a lot of them. Animals will often start to starve in large bases even with access to food because they can't see the food unless they wander close enough to it, it's the same with hauling.

Wouldn't surprise me

Nope. Turns out its a bug with the amount of items on the floor. The fact that the items are far away has no relevance, its purely based on the number of items in the game.

Also, its not a limitation i have to deal with at all. There's a very simple fix.

Then maybe you should make a detailed bug report about it on the official forums because animals only hauling things within about 100 or so blocks of them has been a thing for over a year now, with many threads about it and many people assuming it's working as intended.

If u link from the pic library it'll look like this, instead of a weird steam link, that steam thinks you're leaving steam

The problem is animals only look for so many items to haul before they 'give up', so they check all the items in a base then 'give up' because they have reached their checking limit. So anything outside of the base will not be hauled as the limit will be reached before the animal AI can check for items outside the base.

This mod fixes it:

Would perhaps painting new home zones in areas w resources u want hauled make dogs haul things from there since that could make dogs wander into those ?

When animals decide to haul, they pick the closest thing that might be haulable (not in a stockpile or not in the highest priority stockpile). If that thing is not haulable (because the appropriate stockpile is full, or because there is no stockpile, or the stockpile is outside of the allowed area, then the animal gives up and just doesn't haul anything at all.

So that's the bug. I had another longer post here but deleted it because I thought about it a bit more. It's possible dead rotting animals on the map are imposing the apparent "awareness range limit" so many of us have been experiencing. I generally don't set up a stockpile for them, and while usually they remain forbidden it's possible I sometimes get one unforbidden and that might cause animals to only search out as far as that corpse before resetting. I would have to do more testing to see if thats it. Thanks for sharing though, whether or not this fixes the haul range limit it's still a bug I wasn't aware of.

I could swear I watch my 2 huskies just haul kibble to my chix farm critical storage and milk to my cobra farm critical storage, cuz I'm on day 8 of toxic fall out and we're all walled in.. It's fkn getting close, had to switch my hydro to all rice and 3 chefs cranking out meals and kibble all day.. Huskies are unrestricted, and I don't see them bringing stuff from outside to other stockpiles/storage.. just milk and kibble which I set to drop on the floor so chefs dont have to haul their stuff.. so it looks to me like they do prioritize something..
Umbra Animo Jan 13, 2017 @ 12:43pm
from what i can see it looks like you did not set them to haul
