Planted crops keep vanishing
Hi there,

my crops (Rice, Potatoes, Trees) keep vanishing although there are perfect conditions. Any thoughts on that?

Greetings Ruudi

Blight? Animals eating them? Not harvesting them in time?

I keep getting the alerts that say plant x has died due to not being harvested, yet none of those in that zone are close to being harvestable. I've stayed and watch it happens. Poof, disappears for no reason and alerts me to it.

I'd say it's a bug.

Nope. Once I seeded a field, most of the plant just wont make it tii full growth. Same make it, but only a few. I don´t even get notification.

@travin It may not be growing fast enough to be harvestable during its lifespan due to various factors, like combinations of poor light, temperature and poor soil.

@Ruudi This can happen if you have a poison ship somewhere on the map, or toxic fallout. Both will randomly disappear crops. Blights do this too, although with a notice so you know what's going on. Check the HP remaining on your other crops. If all their HP is full, it's either toxic fallout or a poison ship. Poison ships can damage indoor crops as well, FYI. If their HP isn't full, it's more likely poor temperature killing them.

@Angelpichu: Thank you very much. Must be the poison ship.

Perfectly understandable, except this happens in a year around growing zone and the alerts are very misleading.

Temperature, soil condition, and poor light can still stunt the growth of crops even in growing plots marked as year round. Heat waves, cold snaps, volcanic winters, eclipses, et al can hurt the speed at which plants grow. Click a growing plant, and check its growth rate at various times, then check in the information dialog about the plant. Double the growth time, then subtract that from the plant's lifespan. At 100% growth, that's the time you have to harvest it. If average growth rate is lower, it will take more time to grow, but the lifespan remains the same. If the growth time after applying the growth malus is higher than the lifespan, the plant can not be harvested before it dies.

Thanks for the info, but when you have extensive crops and the alerts are popping off quite often, it's a misleading alert that I don't believe can be turned off. Misleading in that it's telling me something went wrong, inferring that I need to fix it. However in a plot with a uniform soil type and Sun exposure you won't expect a couple of random plants dying when none others surrounding it do. I don't mind the randomness of it, I just don't want dozens of loud alerts about something I have no control over.

Blight will pop up a warning and immidiately take some percentage of plants away.

Poison ship (one of two crashing Mech ship chunks) will generate an increasingly larger circle affected by random blights until it is destroyed - once this blight reaches your crops/grow area you'll start to see plants dying off randomly (not all at once).

The next most likely culprit is some kind of animal. Pretty much all grazing animals will eat your crops if they're allowed near them. This can be especially frustrating when you're trying to use omnivors as base haulers or you accidently allow animals into your Devilstrand fields, if you grow it.

There is no random death of plants like that. (except if mods add some)
If you got a warning, there IS something wrong.

There is random deaths because I'm playing a16 with zero mods.

For my specific case, I can confirm that the poison ship caused it. Like I said, perfect conditions, HP was full, crop kept vanishing out of nowhere, no notification. I just ignored the damn ship.

Thank you all

I am close of 300 hours and that never happen.
There is ALWAYS something.

Light
Temperature
Fallout
Poison ship

You should post a screenshot.

Yeah, you don't know what you're talking about and/or are ignoring the possibility of a bug.

I built an enclosed farm on fertile soil with a Sunlamp and AC regulating the temperature, and all of my hops plants along the walls were getting that alert. Only the ones along the walls. My farmers were set to Unrestricted, and I had 3 people with the ability/priority to Grow, yet every time, they would fail to harvest the Hops plants, and then replant them. NOTHING else in that area had the same problem.

Again, the area was roofed, cooled, lighted, no power problems, accessible by foot traffic, and the Hops plants would die EVERY TIME. I had to delete the small side growing zones and expand an entirely new sunlamp area.

I am just asking for a pic of the growing area to show, without doubt, there is no error
of his side.

When someone got that kind of problem, they should always show a screenshot.
That would save so many problems...
