Caravans - Exploring other tiles of the map
Question - Are caravans only to be used to visit/raid other faction bases and specific map points only? Example - Can I not send a caravan to a random map tile to mine for marble or granite etc which isnt really available in my home base? It'd be kinda neat to setup an outpost setttlement

You can do exactly that you've described for exactly that reason if you wish.

So then what am I missing? I send out my colonists to a certain spot. They will travel there but they dont have an option to settle or zoom into the map.

Open the game options and change the max allowed colonies slider to something above 1. Then you can colonize any tile on the map with a caravan, as long as it's not directly next to an existing settlement.

I'm not sure. Oh, yknow what, I might actually have an idea. Go into options - is your slider for number of colonies set to 1? If so bump it up, then try again.

EDIT: Astasia is a ninja. Confirmed.

Try using the Setup Camp mod under the Workshop. It'll create a small map for you that you can abandon anytime. Great for mining some steel or breaking some stones.

Thank you. That was it. Max number of colonies in settings.
