Force to not rest?
I find it annoying that you can't seem to force your colonists to not go to bed?

Even if you go past 4 as a priority they will still rest. I think past 4 they should simply work until they pass out in the morning and the day/night routine will get changed.

E.g right now there's a siege and i want them to build a wall at one place, they're constantly going back to bed, i'll probably reload an earlier save instead since i can't force them without having to prioritize them 100 times to make them finish it.

You can, I've worked colonists till they pass out

Keep in mind you are giving them to sleep via work schedule 📅. Also by blocking access to beds they might keep working.

I locked a guy in one room and forced him to do once task he was hungry and passed out but worked the whole day before he collapsed

yeah blocking could perhaps work, but not optimal.. i wish i could just set them to work until they pass out.

You can

I'm not in the game right now so I forget the panel name but the same window that sets zones sets hours for sleep and whatnot in blue

Set everything to yellow (work) and use the copy paste feature in that window ui to apply the same schedule to other pawns you want to work

If everything is set to work they will work till they drop.

Work priorities only effect work, it has no impact on how a pawn deals with needs (joy, food, sleep). As far as work priorites, you mentioned "going past 4" which doesn't make sense to me. 1 is the highest priority, 4 is the lowest priority, there is no 5, an empty square means they wont do it ever.

For needs priorities you need to adjust their schedules. As mentioned you can set their schedule to work and they will ignore their joy and sleep needs. You can't make them ignore hunger. If set to the default "anything" then pawns will stop working to fill their needs when they get low, regardless of the priorities of those work tasks.

LOL, nope, that just means they'll sleep on the ground, possibly outside.

Also, the bed rest priority is only for when the colonist has a non life threatening injury. It doesn't mean like regular sleeping.

My colonist PASSED OUT his rest needs went to 0% I couldn't even draft him. He didn't go to bed he physyically could not function.

Yep, that happens if you work them too hard. Even when trying to work them to their limit, you have to make sure to leave then enough in their sleep meter to reach their bed.

Going past 4 means you end up at an empty square yes.. you change it in order so past 4 is always empty square, makes perfect sense to me ;)

Ok so it means resting if you get injured, i wish it was called something else than "rest" tbh, but when you understand what it means it's no big problem i guess..

I'll take a look at the zone thingy.. i still wish there was both sleep and rest in priorities to be honest, messing with zones and stuff is rather cumbersome in comparison to just switching to "square" for everyone..

the point is you can force them all the way

Oh, yes, certainly. My original comment was in regards to your comment about blocking access to their beds, which will do absolutely nothing to help you keep them awake. Matter of fact it will probably make it worse, because instead of them taking off and heading for bed, they will just drop down where they are standing and go to sleep. That means no time to stop them before they get there. When they can go to sleep that fast, you'll end up piling a bunch of "disturbed sleep" penalties on them.
vurt Jun 21, 2017 @ 12:47pm
a bit OT, but what does the penalties mean on the whole? they e.g work and walk slower i'm guessing? or does it only mean they're getting closer to a total breakdown (where they dont function or even attack people, i've seen that once).I'm sure it says somewhere in the game but tbh i haven't looked too closely at it, yet.

you can force them to do a task endlessly ( lets say cooking )
one of 2 things happens
A : the pawn have a mental break
B: the pawn pass out on the spot and sleep for some time and then you can repeat .... but ofc higher chance of them breaking

vurt Jun 21, 2017 @ 4:10pm
yeah i meant overall, not with force. I guess it only really means how close they are getting to a mental breakdown? let's say the overall mod (with +mood applied) is still on minus, will it affect their work speed or anything else really?
