I had no cobras to begin with, bought a few cobra eggs from a trader to try, and they all hatched tame and named.
Tame is consistent with all my other trader eggs (except Ostriches which i suspect is a bug).
Named is not consistent with the documented mechanics of the game, and I suspect that is also a bug, but a fun one rather than a failure. I have not seen names attached to hatched animals of other species, so this is 100% vs. 0%.
When I bought more cobra eggs from another trader, I got the same results.
I don't know whether any of the eggs laid by my tame cobras ever hatched. (That is the question above, since they may have been eaten by the cobras as food.) If any of those domestic cobra eggs did hatch, they were indistinguishable from the trader eggs. That is, all hatched named.
Anyone have an answer to the original question about whether cobras eat cobra eggs?
Thanks!
