Aboard the Helios Voyager was a small crew of able bodied spacemen and spacewomen who oversaw the trajectory and maintanence of the Helios Voyager as well as the health and safety of the future colonists of Antares II. As the Helios Voyager approached Antares II they began to wake their slumbering colonists. The colonists were understandably groggy and milled about aimlessly trying to get their bearings. But they didn't get much opportunity to get acquainted to the ship as sirens began blaring all throughout the ship. A rogue meteorite had collided with the ship tearing a massive hole into the hull and compromising the integrity of the air lock. The crew rushed the colonists to the escape pods and jettisoned them into the direction of Antares II.
Hurtling towards planet are five escape pods. The pods tore through the canopy of jungle trees and landed safely upon the surface. The pods all let out a soft "Tsssh" sound and began to open their doors to what would become home for the next few months.
The first colonist to exit his escape pod is Jefferey McJefferson. Or just Jeff for short. Jeff was born into a proud military family with a long lineage of armed combat. Originally raised on an urbworld, Jeff came to know the life of soldiering at a young age first with wargames with the local children and later within a military school. Due to a militaristic hertitage Jeff was groomed into being an officer among his peers and was selected to become a pilot within the intergalactic space force. Jeff quickly climbed the ranks and became an ace fighter pilot, a title that came with not only prestige but also the means of sustaining a lavish life style. This afforded him soome free time where he began to pick up the hobby of horticulture. Apparently it soothed him to watch the roses bloom. When he wasn't in the pilot seat or in his garden he was wooing any woman who caught his fancy. Eventually his galavanting ways did catch up with him. One of his sexual conquests had fallen in love with him and when she found out about his polyamorous ways plotted her revenge. Needless to say Jeff was parted from his left ring finger via kitchen knife as an outward message of Jeff's infidelity. Since this happened aboard the Helios Voyager, which for some unforseen reason was not staffed with a licensed doctor, the crew thought it prudent to stick Jeff in a cryptosleep pod and await medical treatment for Jeff at the closest glitterworld, which really wasn't all that close. Jeff exited the escape pod clinching his still bleeding hand in an attempt to staunch the bleeding.

The second colonist to exit their pod was a mister Stelios Stamatis, who grew up on a medieval planet. Stelios had lived a hard life in his youth where his home was constantly in a state of flux, and the sight of burning fields and homesteads quickly became common place in Stelios' memory. The constant battles and wars between the medieval houses on his home world meant Stelios was often at the mercy of those around him. That's not to say that Stelios was entirely helpless as he knew when to fight and would fight if the situation called for it. When things eventually did calm down Stelios found work as a black smith where he began crafting weapons of war. Originally he crafted swords, and axes but that all changed when a space ship landed on his home planet. The space travellers entered into Stelios' village, and following the precise directions of the "Intergalactic space travel for dummies" said five words to the villagers "Take us to your leader." And they were promptly brought to the ruling King of Stelios' vilage where they struck up a deal. The space travellers would sell them their space weaponry if they could in return receive young and able bodied workers to populate future rimworlds for them. And thats how Stelios found himself in the predicament he currently found himself in now: on a strange planet surrounded by animals and people he doesn't know and with an insatiable desire for a warm bowl of porridge.

Noticing that there were other colonists milling about and safely breathing the air on this foreign planet Sophia "Sophie" Lacrimos blew out a sigh of relief and began gasping for air. She had been holding her breath for what felt like forever in fear of the air on this planet being toxic, but it was certainly not toxic. It was thick and humid, but most certainly breathable. Sophie's first step was cautious and deliberate, noting that the soil consisted of both limestone and granite. As a child Sophie was a self-proclaimed book worm, always having her nose buried in a book. Learning new things came very easy to her and she became knowledgable of a variety of topics including plant life, machinery, cooking and art but her favorites were about animals. Something about them she found incredibly fascinating and studied the anatomy of all living creatures from the tiniest of bugs to the largest of mammals and everything inbetween. Originally studying to become a doctor, Sophie found this lifestyle intellectually unfulfilling. She longed to witness with her own eyes the creatures she had only read about and uprooted herself in the aspirations of becoming a wandering healer. When she heard about a colony voyage departing for a distant Rimworld Sophie signed right up at the opportunity to witness exotic and untold landscapes. Upon closer inspection of her current surroundings though Sophie noticed a small trail of blood. It appeared that her medical skills would be required sooner than inspected and began to follow the trail of blood with the intensity of the detectives in the story books of her youth.

Gerard "Zippy" Stein was one of the lucky ones. What made him lucky was that he had won the lottery, he got to leave his home planet for the prospect of a better life. Because growing up Zippy was relegated to living out his days in the mines, not by choice but out of necessity. The surface world on his planet had grown to become uninhabitable and so everyone had to burrow beneath the soil and rock as a means of survival. Zippy's slight frame and spry body is what won him his nickname. He could reach into the cracks and crevices the adults could not and the children were too afraid to venture into. Unlike those around him, Zippy was unafraid of danger and the presence of pain was not a feeling he actively tried to avoid. Cuts and scrapes were a badge of honor to him and also showed to the other cave dwellers that he was not lazy in how he went about his work. He did what needed to be done and those around him recognized and admired these traits about him. Upon winning the lottery he was moved to one of the few places on the surface world that still supported life and it was here that he was apprenticed as a colony settler. He was skilled at both mining and construction already but the project of growing plants was one that was alien to him, but one he soon came to enjoy. The first colony he was a part took him to a planet almost completely covered in snow. Zippy's resourcefulness and quick thinking saved his fellow colonists as he was able to quickly mine into a nearby mountain and secure a safe and warm living stead. When things on his first colony became more routine and his mining and construction services became needed less often it was decided that Zippy would be better served on a new colonization mission. Zippy boarded an space ship he constructed himself and launched himself into space where he was picked up by the Helios Voyager en route to Antares II. Initially he was taken aback by the spectacular jungle trees which now towered above him.

The last person to come out of their escape pod was also the largest. Arnhulf Kjellsburg was originally from a medieval world much like Stelios. But unlike Stelios, Arnhulf was a lordling, a minor part of the nobility, but was nobility nonetheless. His primary teachings were in the realm of speechcraft and was taught that he need never learn construction, growing or mining as those were tasks meant for the peasants. That all changed when a space ship landed and the space travellers began to take over the planet for themselves. Arnhulf's platoon was overwhelmed and rather than throw away his life in a senseless act of gallantry he instead surrendered to his opposition. The space farers made him to report a a Doctor Humphrey Limenem, a scientist notorious for his endeavors into the psyche and genetic makeup of the human body. Arnhulf Kjellson was stripped of his medieval identity and was henceforth referred to as "Test Subject X49-5B." The meaning of his identification remains unknown to him but the mutilation of his body remains. Limenem had replaced all of his limbs with bionic parts, giving him bionic legs and as opposed to power claws instead gave X49-5B dual scyther arm blades. But that pales in comparison to what he did to his brain. X49-5B was augmented in such a way that his personality no longer resembles his former self. X49-5B is a fierce melee combatant with a deep-seated bloodlust and a muscle structure that lends itself to both agile movement as well as devastating power. Upon landing on this foreign planet X49-5B looked upon his new home. His eyes transfixed on a nearby turkey and a slight smirk began to appear on his face. But for the mean time there appeared to work that needed doing.

Day 1 started out with the colonists exiting their pods and surveying their surroundings. There was a brief race to the rationed weapons with Jeff quickly nabbing the hunting rifle for himself and Stelios, with his bad back, having to settle for the pistol. Since Sophie swore off violence entirely and X49-B had no need for a puny knife, Zippy grabbed the knife unenthusiastically wishing there were just one more pistol allotted in their supplies. The group exchanged their names and pleasantries before deciding on where to set up their new home. They opted to build a small cabin along a pre-existing steel wall in a valley between two small mountains.
It took the better part of the day but by the end of it Zippy had created for the group 5 single beds, a small table, four stools and a roof over their heads. Sophie succeeded in patching up Jeff's missing finger choosing not to waste their limited medical supplies on such a superficial wound. When asked how he came to lose the finger Jeff declined to give the question a response as the thought of the woman who did this to him still brought up feelings of resentment and anger. The rest of the group worked at hauling everything back to the stockpile zone and grabbing a quick meal before heading to bed.
Day 2 was a little bit more eventful. Zippy deconstructed some steel walls to reveal a small structure built into a mountain. He removed a few extra walls to open it up just enough to fit a butchering table. He thought this might also make a nice place to store that sixth bed he made for no particular reason and placed it along the wall opposite the butchering table. X49-5B inquired as to what Zippy was building and Stelios told him that the room was to be made into a small butcher shop. "Good." responded X49-5B and walked off into the wilderness. What a strange fellow that one is, Stelios thought to himself as he finished up making his third shoddy bow.
Jeff meanwhile was hard at work planting a garden which would feed and clothe them for the days ahead. He found a sizeable swarth of land containing rich soil. It was here that he decided to plant a rice field. Once that was finished he plotted out where he intended to plant the cotton fields and the corn field. He wanted to plant a field for heal root too, but at the moment that was out of his skill range. But it wouldn't take too long for it to be attained.
Sophie busied herself by picking the local berries, only stopping briefly to feed some berries to an alpaca in hopes of taming it. Not today it seemed as the Alpaca ate the berries and trotted off in the opposite direction. Unsure as to whether or not the berries would be safe for them to eat Sophie decided to made a campfire and began to cook the berries into simple meals. She made about a dozen simple meals before deciding to go to bed. Sophie was the last one to enter the homestead before sundown and noticed that X49-5B had yet to return from the wilderness. He was a most unsettling presence to be around and Sophie thought that intimidating demeanor might help protect him from any unwanted danger and she fell asleep.
Day 3 dawned and Sophie awoke to find X49-5B sleeping soundly in the bed next to hers. He had returned unscathed. When she walked outside she was greeted with about a dozen dead animal corpses ranging from tiny rats to large cassowaries. There was even a cobra in there, its head cleanly chopped off! Apparently X49-5B had decided to venture off the day before to find out if any of the local wildlife knew how to perform a medieval handshake. And since most of the animals in the large pile did not have opposable thumbs they were never taught the secret handshake of X49-5B's people. "Food won't be an issue for a good while" Sophie thought to herself as she picked up a headless turkey and headed off towards the butcher building. A light rain began to fall.
While Sophie was busy butchering all the dead animals, Jeff finished up the remainder of the crop plots. He found Stelios mining out a layer of the nearby hill and joined beside him in picking apart the rock. Zippy thought it prudent to begin walling off their new home and used some wood to quickly wall off their north-eastern and southern entrances. The nearby mountains protected them to their east and their west but their northern flank would remain open for the time being. It was much too wide to build a single wall there and so something imaginative would have to be done about it later.
That was when a loud boom sounded. Followed by another, and another. 5 explosions in all. Sophie raced over to see what was causing them and found five dead boomalopes and 1 more about to die along side its brethern. Sophie instinctively ran over to rescue the one surviving boomalope but decided it would be more prudent to worry about her own safety. The soft rain was enough to stop the fire from spreading but not strong enough to prevent the dying boomalope from exploding and possibly injuring her in the process. She said a quick prayer for the dying animal and began hauling some of the dead boomalopes to the ever growing pile of dead animal bodies by the butcher shop. As if on cue X49-5B came up swiftly and began hauling the dead bodies back the dead boomalopes with Sophie's help. He announced to her that he will be talking the night's watch.
The rest of the day was uneventful consisting of butchering dead animals, mining rocks and hauling rocks into defensive positions, as per Zippy's instructions. The souther border was beginning to take shape into what can only be descibed as a "primitive kill box." The only other interesting thing that happened was a local trader came by. X49-5B gave him all of Stelios' crappy bows he made earlier in the day and procured some extra medicine. Only 6 parcels but in a disease ridden jungle that would prove invaluable for quite some time.

Hopefully every other day. I just started on a Friday.
This is my first one :)
I actually have not elected any leaders yet. But I intend to in the next version. I am waiting to see who the game sends my way with the "wanderer joins" and "raid" events. I doubt I will get anything outstanding but we'll see.
I will probably play the save file later on today and write it all up some time tomorrow.
Sophie dejectedly walked back to the butcher's room and started chopping up more animal carcasses. All of a sudden while she was halfway through carving up her fifth boomalope corpse that day, there arose a loud banging on her door. Frightened she began to cower in the corner of the room until she heard a single gunshot and the banging stopped. She opened the door. "Rattus Norvegicus" she murmured to herself at she stared at the dead rodent lying at her feet. Jeff strolled over to where Sophie was, grabbed the dead rat by the tail and tossed it atop the rest of the animal bodies Sophie had yet to carve up. He smiled and walked off to join Stelios in the higly intellectual activity of hitting rocks. A favorite past time on Stelios' home planet.
Meanwile, Zippy extended the long house to include 3 individual rooms (Stelios, Sophie and Zippy) plus one work room with a research bench (drug production), hand tailor bench and fueled stove. Sophie and Stelios were content with the new additions to the homestead with both of them finding a work station at the stove and research table respectively. The new rooms were oddly shaped, resembling hallways more than actual bedrooms but for now it would have to do until the mountainside got mined out far enough to be moved into.
In the distance came a single man with nothing more than a rusty old pistol on his person. His name is Chris Pestana and he used to be a medieval Minstrel. He wasn't very skilled at much of anything besides art and he refused to do hauling, mining, crafting, cooking, construction and growing but he was atleast healthy. And fat. Chris is exceptionally fat.

Seeing the new recruit in need of some new clothes Stelios stopped researching drugs to make Chris a loin cloth out of monkey hide. It was of poor quality and Chris refused to wear it. Stelios made a second attempt and crafted together one shoddy boomalope loin cloth. Chris, realizing that things just aren't going to improve from here on out, took the shoddy loin cloth and tried it on. It fit. Barely. Chris was all but enthused to be wearing such unfashionable clothing, especially because there were no pockets. But beggars cannot be choosers at a time like this and Chris ventured off in search of some trees to chop down in order to purvey some wood which he had no intentions of ever carrying.
Later that night X49-5B took a break from torturing the wildlife and instead cleaned the house and hauled off all the stone chunks out of the mine, placing them in a defensive formation at the southern border. When he did return back to the group later that morning he told them all "we should have a name for ourselves as well as a name for this new place we all call home." Everyone agreed and put forth their ideas on what to name themselves and their new home. Jeff suggested to name their new home Chex Mix Land and that they be known as the Koalaoctopusicorns. Stelios gave his input stating that they name the town Ashton and to name themselves "Town-At-Pyromaniac-City" (completely not foreshadowing any future events) and Sophie suggested to name themselves Dysfunction Junction and call the homestead Rainsville on account of it constantly raining all the time. X49-5B choose to abstain from giving the place and the group a name so it all fell down to Zippy choosing what he liked best. He decided that the name Rainsville was a proper fit on account of it raining 4 of the 5 days they had lived there and that the group be named Koalapusiunicorns because he thought that might look really nice on some T-Shirts with their names on the backs. X49-5B shook his head and went to bed.

The presence of the Koalaoctopusicorns did take notice from some of the existing factions. One faction who call themselves "The Worm Men" thought it to be a good idea pay the Koalaoctopusicorns a visit by sending out one of their young prospective recruits, an 18 year old boy by the name of Earl Houston who grew up as a Shelter kid before joining the worm men. Brandishing nothing but a flimsy wooden club and a massive amount of bravado Earl ran headlong towards Rainsville, only to find a firing squad waiting to greet him. The combined firepower of Jeff, Zippy and Stelios brought Earl down, with Stelios claiming the kill shot as his one shot pierced Earl's lung ending his short life. They all went about their business and when he awoke X49-5B gathered up some nearby wood and built Earl a sarcophogus. It was awful quality as x49-5B had never held a hammer before in his life but felt a small sense of satisfaction towards his handiwork. And even though it was a really ugly box that barely resembled a coffin, the rest of the Octopusicorns received a small sense of happiness that they had buried this young lad in a crappy wooden box instead of letting the panthers eat his innards.

They all gathered around this modern masterpiece and commented on its crude wooden etchings and its haphazard construction. Stelios, being the most offended person in the bunch, began to go on a fire starting spree and tried to light the wooden coffin on fire. It really didn't achieve much though because it was still raining but just for added precaution Chris followed Stelios around and immediately stamped out any fires that got set. Soon Stelios' rage subsided and he went back to learning about drugs.
Day 5 involved the first rice harvest by Jeff, the creation and use of a stone cutting bench and the construction of some granite walls on what would become their new homestead by Zippy. More animals got mutilated by X49-5B, Sophie finally tamed that fatass alpaca, Stelios learned all there ever was to learn about drugs and began researching micro-electronics and Chris... he just chopped more wood and cleaned the place. An eclipse happened in this time frame, the rain stopped for a few hours until it started raining again magically to stop the jungle from burning down due to some boomalopes exploding and a blight wiped out almost all their crops just before the corn was ready to be harvested. All in all a great week was had by everyone who wasn't named Earl Houston.

Glad you enjoyed them. Jeff is a pretty good shot and his gardening ability will come in handy later on.
