huge lag issues?
So I played this game a long time ago before the world-update and caravan thing, Iv come back, built a medium sized world, started playing and put it up to speed-3 and the game now on speed 2/3 lags incredibly badly, I dunno why (I get this is EA) but it lags so badly I was wondering if theres anything I can do? like turn things off that help or whatnot? I wanna keep playing but trying to play speed 1 and never changing that speed makes simple tasks take hours

First off i got no idea how tech you are so take no offence ....

Seen a few people here with same issue and mosty of them sorted it by deleting old save files if you played several games over some time you build up rather many autosaves and that can make the game lag .... so try to delete some of them ( read all saves you do not plan to use again )

Do you have any mods installed ? that can also be a issue checking error logs is a way to look into that

What kind of sysytem are you using ? if it is a laptop or even a desktop you might want to look into the power settings if the system is on any kind of power saving mode it hurts the performance a lot ( i had this issue for a long time and did not think of it atall )

hope any of these random solutions can help you.

Alright will try the save file delete thing and Iv got two mods only the blueprints and the Prepare carefully, Im using a desktop and no Im not that tech-savy heh but I have no problem running things like witcher 3 on ultra and still manage at least 60 frames so I kinda can't see how a game like rimworld can tank my system unless the patches while I was gone utterly destroyed the games optimization lol

One more thing ... do you have chickens ? ..... there is a reason *chicken apocalypse* is a thing in Rimworld 30+ chickens or other pets will slow any system down ( something to do with parthfinding i believe )

for the mods there is no reason the 2 you mantion should break anything so must be another thing.

Iv got nothing thats the thing, I legit can start the game on a tiny map with 3 people, a single pet and a few supplies and -still- on +2/+3 speed the game stutters and lags like hell

Happen to me before. I have 44 people with 50 animals.

End up i just send half the people to setup a new base and the lag reduce somehow.

Kill off 50% of the animals and remove all the graves to prevent grave visiting.
Lastly set all the doors to stay open.

Basically if you had 5fps on speed 3 you should now have 40-60fps. Did you know Rimworld logs everything? Every entity- dead or alive!

In time these entities build up and as rimworld uses only 1 core and 1 thread huge lag is prominent! What this mod does is brute force deletes all dead entities which are no longer revelant.

On a decent game we are looking at thousands deleted entities- as each entity has a tick- no more. Its unoffical but you can get it on main forum. There are some minor bugs (dead come alive) but like many I too tested this and boy- my performance is okey now on speed 3.

Those few bugs I can live with- they are minor(read them up on offical) but yea- this really helps.

This pawns are there for a reason, they are called "world pawns" it allows these pawns to return, remember that raider whos eyes arms and legs you removed before you released him, yeah can come back in future raids, or that beloved dog you sold cuz you needed that rifle, yep he can come back on a trader etc it makes for good stories. Now what core does wrong is it records every pawn no matter how important they are, Zhentars mod, mentioned above, tweaks that so as to not store as many pawns, for example if im selling animals i dont need pig1-pig999 being stored and therefore ticking. This is what the mod reduces and in late games is the number 1 cause of lag, Ludeon are aware and are working on this for later releases.
