The Grand Art of Melee: What weapons do you use?
Just a social discussion thread. What does everyone prefer for melee pawns? I myself prefer someone decked out with two Scyther Blades. Sure, makes them fairly useless for much other than cleaning and (rock) hauling, but the 20dps with basically a 100% hitrate is fantastic.

I always pick Tribe start so my melees are always steel longswords. Ive never gotten to the cool weapons.

I usually just use melee for subduing escapes or mental breaks. Though might have to try a "Scyther" cleaner/hauler guy next time through.

Longsword is the best. Scyter has more dps. But i want that manipulation. Also i dont understand, why 2 scythers dont do 40dps.

I currently have someone decked out with a plasteel longsword, tbh. It's really quite nice.

It's honestly so damn good, the only downside is their carry limit is reduced to 20 from 75 (hence my little bit about "rock" hauling rather than normal) although I'm planning on testing a dual Power Claw adjustment on the same colonist. It sacrifices around 7dps but affords maintaining 92% manipulation instead of 20%.

Naah, I've got plenty of miniguns and charge rifles, as well as use of MAIs from Miscellaneous MAI, who give no ♥♥♥♥♥ about losing a limb or two since they just sleep and repair themselves lol

Ive only used longsword but heard the other sword is better because of its dps

do tribes have difficulty recruiting spacers and industrial colonists or is it just the other way around?

they have. but they can recruit other tribers faster.

pLasteel Longsword is the best. Legendary one got 18dps or so.

to me i go club to take ppl alive and with all limbs. mele ppl just hold the guys back untill my gunner kill them so as door holders mace is fine and i can run them down and club ppl as they flee

Ideally for something designed to kill quickly and efficiently you want a Plasteel Longsword, as even a Normal grade blade has 12dps, slightly less than a Power Claw.

If taking (relatively intact) people alive is your jam, then a Jade Mace is the best thing to use, although due to the scarcity of Jade, Uranium works almost as well (140% melee damage modifier vs. 150% in Jade).

The literal best melee weapon in the game is a Scyther Blade, at a clear 20dps. No vanilla weapon surpasses it, but being a Mechanoid weapon it is both potentially difficult for someone to acquire as well as designed to simply kill with ruthless efficiency.

the claws are actually very easy to aquire. simply down a scyther and go operation to remove the blade. i never use the claws dues to bad manipulation but they do sell well

I think you mean Scyther Blades, then, since Power Claws are different entirely and can only be bought from Exotic Goods traders.

I think Plasteel spear is best. I did like clubs in the beginning because with clubs I was able to knock people down without too much injuries. I do not know but playing alpha 15 my people did kill with good clubs too often and with bad clubs they were in danger to get killed or knocked down in melee fights. I like Plasteal spear because it is fast and deadly. Other weapons are slower or not as powerful. Beside this I´m not interested in cutting off arm and legs to be able to recruit the guy I knock out. Sword in my opinion are great to cutt off arms or legs.

Thrumbos, fully trained on release.

Elephants, rhinos or megas if on a budget.

Risking pawns in melee is silly.

I would use my Thrumbo, but I have like 14 gunners, sooo throwing my *named* Thrumbo (yep, nuzzled and got named Zeke) into a firefight between generally around 30 guns isn't a smart move, when around 8 colonists with guns can down a Thrumbo.

There isn't much risk per se to using pawns in melee, not compared to other things. In saying that, I am working on an army of wild boars, but that's a different story.
