Who Smoothes Floors?
What labor type will smooth floors? I can't seem to get my people to smooth the floors without manually prioritizing each square.

Why is the floor that costs nothing the best one behind gold?

Because it requires naturally-generated stone in order to be constructed. Without natural "rough-hewn stone", you can't smooth the ground to make smooth stone flooring. Also if you've ever walked on a smoothed natural stone floor irl, it's BLOODY AMAZING and actually does look really good

It's only the best in beauty, (not counting gold-not sure where that falls) the smoothed floors actually have zero value, so in the long run they aren't the best for making impressive rooms. They are pretty great early game though.

Smooth stone floors are pretty but come at the cost of a chance of having an infestation happen. :D

Floors have no bearing on infestation. That is up to whether there is an overhead natural roof or not.

Raiders don't pull up golden floors bro XD They only steal distinct items of value sitting on the ground, like plasteel and components.

True, colony wealth does certainly affect raid size. None of my raids have even gotten close to my base though, and no droppods can land in it since it's in a mountain (in retrospect not the best choice cuz DAMN BUGS)

Bugs means free kibble meat, sure.

Infestations also mean Megaspiders in enclosed spaces and large numbers. Those things are at least as resilient as a Warg, and very hard to kill in close quarters, tbh.

Smoothing stone to make the 0 beauty floor takes a lot of time compared to putting down some wood (also 0 beauty, also not flammable). That is time spent not building other critical stuff. If you want a pretty floor early on, use stone bricks (2 beauty, crafting training for stone cutters).

Smoothing a floor is fantastic construction XP, especially for larger floors that require smoothing. Building wooden floors or stone bricks isn't as good, and more often than not in the early game you won't get crafting XP for stonecutters since a large amount of your bricks will come from deconstructed structures and walls pre-gen'd on the map.
