Stone doesnt burn and has more HP than wood or steel. ( Yes steel burns )
Plasteel would have higher HP than stone, but it is slightly burnable so not a good idea really for walls.
You can click the wall in your structures menu, and choose whatever material type...then when selected you can click the "i" on the black box showing the material to the left.
This will open up the info screen showing you HP and flammability rating.
You can easily make a stonecutters bench and start stone cutting early on to avoid using steel or wood at all...even on flat maps.
If the floor is already rough stone, you can smooth it and save materials...smoothed stone is the highest beauty rating for flooring you can get and 100% speed.
Also oddly, wood flooring isnt flammable nor is carpet so feel free to use whatever flooring you like best...but smoothed is best for beauty and for speed they are all 100%.
If I dont have rough stone to smooth, I like white carpet...shows dirt and items laying on it, so its easier to know what needs cleaned and to spot items you're looking for...
You can remove flooring, its on the flooring menu near the smoothing option on the left.
Because it is also fireproof, I use it for key doors on granite walls.
As mentioned you can use Uranium for certain sections, or doors, but you may want to keep its use limited.
Raid difficulty is based on wealth and its around a 15$ vs 600$ difference per tile.
You'll have to mostly buy it as well from traders or gain late game level research and Deep Mine it to find large enough quantities depending on project size.
In the end you need defence spots to protect yourself and your base and there are lots of possibilities to create such spots however you like to play. I try to keep everything simple and cheap and like to use traps out of steel a lot. But I like to wall in my main area also as soon as possible to keep my people safe. Wood is the fastest way to do this normally.
