Crafting skill?
I might be missing something here, but it seems like there's no easy way to raise crafting anymore. Stonecutting is now a construction task. Smelting chunks doesn't seem to give anything. Rolling smokeleaf doesn't give any crafting exp from what I've heard. It seems like the only way to raise crafting is to make things I don't really need to or want to make, like spending all my cloth making hats or something.

I'm like 200 days into my current game, I had two pawns start with 8 crafting. One of them is now at 9 crafting, one is still at 8. I have nobody that can even make components yet. I'm thinking I need to fill a giant warehouse up with cloth hats just to get people making components.

If you're in desperate need in raising your crafting skill just spam a bunch of parka bills.

Ya I've started crafting just some random mod clothes. Just wondering if there's any useful task for crafters to do related to just daily around the base stuff though. I don't understand why they were all removed.

stone cutting was never a fast way in increase crafting skill tho. u could mine an entire mountain and still be lucky to get a few point in crafting. making clothes has always been fastest way to get crafting up and make money on the side

Stone cutting and smelting was generally enough to get crafting up to 10, at which point they could switch over to crafting components. I've always found it's not worth crafting clothes until the skill is already fairly high, it's not really worth the storage space or resources to craft a bunch of bad items that sell for almost nothing.

Clothing is fastest but making medicine is more profitable.

Is this still bugged where the speed of making bricks is based on crafting skill? I understand it was changed to a construction job, but if its going to be a construction job, construction skill should be what modifies the speed of making bricks.

There's a stat for stonecutting speed in the colonist info popup that professes to be based on Construction skill. Whether it's properly hooked into the job, I couldn't tell you.

Weapons instead of clothing?

Cloth and leather tend to be more valuable than stone for me since I tend to play cold mountains

It's just a thought but you could spam stone shivs and see how that works

Oh, so stone cutting was changed over to construction now? Dayum, and here I was still trying to roll a good crafter to do it. Oops.
Astasia Jun 12, 2017 @ 7:45am
It's still a crafting task as far as work priorities go, but it depends on constrution skill to increase the speed, and each crafting operation slightly raises construction instead of crafting.

AFAIK there are no longer any "crafting" tasks that raise crafting. You have to do tailoring or smithing tasks.

assign your "crafter" to produce great bow's on a smithy. it costs 50 wood per great bow and is the easiest/cheapest way to increase the crafting skill of one of your pawns i'm aware about. a pawn with two flames gets about 900 exp per bow.

Thanks for clarifying :)

mortal shells, they are kind of cheap once you have chemfuel from a deep drill, after 10 you can craft components.

not true. making drugs is "crafting" so there is still crafting skills to level crafing just no longer stone cutting. but making a simple cloth parka or any material will get a passionate person thousands of skill points
