Harmony.log

Every time i start Rimworld, it creates a file called "Harmony.log" on my desktop.... What is it?

Harmony is a library modders use. One of the modders for a mod you use must have set the option for logging to on during testing and likely forgot to turn it back off.

The only way to stop that is get the modder to change it in the mods code. Or stop running that mod.

Guess there is one other way. If you know your way around C#, you could always decompile the dll and remove the offending flag, then recompile the mod.

I think setting file as hidden should make it.
Not tested yet.

for me, i have lots of mods, so the harmony logfile ended up growing quite big and soon will be about 15megs, so it prompted me to search around, mainly i didnt know if it was safe to delete, but i just checked the contents of it and search for the word "mod" and found some mod id names, and browsed through it to extract some info above.

i think if you like the game and mods you are playing with, its not worth deleting the mod (and potentially corrupting your savegames etc) just because of the log file, but here are some ways that might help:

a) you could hide the file (but do check on it once a month or so in case it grows to a huge size)

b) you could save a compressed copy of it somewhere else, delete it, and make a new text file of the same name (with abc in the content). and then make the file system or read only.
(havent tried it yet but could work)

c) you could make a batch file (in windows) to delete it, and have the batch file auto run when windows starts. (same principle for other operating system might work)

d) you can just ignore it (but if you came here looking for info, it probably bugged you a bit too, even though the log file is probably here to assist modders to quickly check logs etc (but actually modders could also use notepad++ and have the logfile anywhere, and simply press control r to refresh it directly in the logfile viewer.

e) you could ask the creator of harmony to see if they can kindly add an option to allow the actual player to make the logfile simply go in the players default save subfolder (which i think is based on app data user)

SO i found A ay to hide the file you simply on on file manager on desktop section set the harmony file hidden and on view section untick the hidden file boom there we go

yeah that could do a good job to keep the desktop a bit more tidy :) (its still worth keeping an eye on it if you have a harmony.log file, just in case it grows to a huge size, taking up space etc). (that being said, i did a recent check for the file now in 2025 and i dont seem to have any harmony.log file) :)
