are geysers good for heating?
i had a geyser surrounded by walls in a small space (with a roof) and it seemed to produce alot of heat, could it be used to heat up the colony?

It is hard to do but if with smart planning yes it can be a very good heatsource

you can use it yes ... with some planning

To heat up a whole colony without losing too much heat, you'll have to know a bit about how insulation works in game and take advantage of duct networks. It would take quite a bit of planning but is doable if you're looking to save wood/electricity on heating.

IIRC, the gyser still makes heat when through a geothermal gen, but less : You could make it a central piece with other heating, possibly get better results.

i use geysirs to partially heat up my greenhouses. especially useful in constantly frozen / arctic maps. but they should be accompanied with some heaters, as the way they put out heat is... unusual.

you see, the geysir has an animation. it blasts out steam in regular intervalls. every time steam gets blastet up, the geysir produces a lot of heat, but if it's dormant, it won't produce any heat.

i'Ve noticed that, because i had a small greenhouse around it: the heater used to blast out steam, and the temperature rapidly rose by a few degrees. then it slowly started dropping again, until the next eruption, where the temperature rose again.

if used in conjunction with heaters, it can save you some energy, as the heaters won't be used all the time, but you should have heaters nonetheless to ensure a minimum temperature.
