Infestation is a huge problem as it can spawn right in the middle of your base. Other than that, not really.

with overhead mountains its the safest place to be, just make sure you never make doors slower then steel
that should allow you to gtfo fast enough to dodge the bugs when they spawn
make long 3 wide hallways that go in circles so you have good firing lines and plenty of space to shoot before they reach you
and you can go around so that your colonists dont get stuck with a bunch of bugs between them and safety

Keep the base lit up with lights then have a dark unlit mine further into the hillside. Bugs are more likely to spawn in the dark areas which is easier to contain rather than spawning inside your base.

it is more safe vs raids the drawback is infections and those can be rough early game.

infestations once ur set up are more a blessing then a curse. its free insect meat to make kibble from or to put in ur prisons nutrient dispenser

You can't stop infestation of spawning but you can change the probability of them
spawning in your base.

Create a "mine", deep inside the montain, closed by a door and NO light.
By the opposite, try to not build your base too deep inside the mountain
and put lights everywhere.

The infestation prefer deep dark cave, so doing so increase the chance of them spawning
in the mine instead of the middle of your base. The probability is based on
each tiles, so the bigger your "mine", the bigger the change they spawn there.

Once they spawn there, this is pretty easy.
Put some wood there, set it in fire and watch them die from the heat :p

I like to place turrets along the hallways and intersections. Makes bug infestations a breeze. Put them online when the bugs appear and RUN!

thats going to cost a lot of power sinse you cant really run them on a seperate grid
bugs will also chew those up quickly if they can get close
but sinse they have a max agro range its easyer to just shoot them from a distance with your colonists and fall back a bit if they look like they are getting close
eventually you will see where they will lose interest and you can just shoot them from there

its good to start in a cavebase in early game but after the first year i would switch evreything that is important to the outside because of risk of infestations.

WIMP, EAT THE BUGS. CONSUME THE FLESH OF THE ENEMY AS THE SPOILS OF WAR.

Not raw, of course, we're not savages. Cook it up really fancy. It's not half bad!

That's a lie. Lighting has no effect on infestation spawning. The deeper the room into the mountain does though.

You can put a switch down so you can turn them all off/on with a single lever.

how do you have two seperate grids in the middle of a base?
screenshot please i am curious

both heat and lighting matters
