If not, when you first generate a colony, at map selection (right after the 30%, 50%, 100% world size screen), go to advanced at the bottom and you can change the map size. Personally I agree the default is a touch small, I exclusively use the 300x300 now, which is the smallest large option.
And next you will come here complaining about lag.
The reason maps are as they is due to to the limits the game for now, later we MIGHT see bigger maps but not for now.
Suddenly half the map was on fire from a storm and FPS dropped from 60 to 15. Toxic fallout made it run smooth again after getting rid of all the animals and plants.
The bigger maps most likely work better on mountaneous terrains, where most land is just rock. Open jungle was a mistake on my part.
I would not be surprised if even bigger mountain maps are stable on high end PCs even in late game.
its using single core
even high end pc's will slow down in the late game
maybe not from fire but once you get chikens it will go below 30
