Yeah theres hunting, but it aint very challenging after awhile, scenery dosn't change much and no weather, nor day/night.-its kinda easy, but looks good and does what it says.
Now as for Primal, well its a love hate thing.
The dino's are scary as S H I T at first, its got full day/night and weather, huge map (and it looks way better than Carnivores), rocks (!), and its ALOT harder (prepare to get slaughtered regularly, even by Tric's).
Buuuuut....multiplayer has bugs, tons and tons of bugs.
Oh its playable (multi) but your gonna have times where you rage quit (or wanna) (dino glitching, the ammo bug, hit boxes suck in multi, sometimes crates dont re-spawn and if you start a game after quiting without totally exiting the game and menu and everything, the map markers wont show up after you get back in) and woe to any pilgram stupid enouph to walk around with no cammo (tho the pros do it this way to get more kills).
So yeah, Carnivores: for kickin back, checkin out the view (with some killing, and a little dying).
Primal: for regular death is imminent moments, huge map with all sorts of biomes, pretty to look at, but some dam ugly bugs in multi.
If you do solo tho its more like old school Carnivores, in that the bugs seem to be tied to multi-player latency issues, and theres an actual functioning hidding mechanic (its scary and thrilling when you lay under a bush while a rex walks by looking for a meal, quite trippy).
Get em both on sale.
I can't say just get one (I would wait till an X-mass sale if theyre going to have one), as neither are bad, Primal's got WAY more play value and style, while Carnivores still has its moments too tho.
Just know Primal will piss you off in multi sometimes (if you can find a game even, better to host a game on lan if you can) and theres cheaters, the usual ilk of any online game with shooting.
Hope this helps..
Also the carnivore Para is sooo cute =D +1
This guys got some points.
Carnivores also has what I like to call "fodder" dinosaurs, Pelecanimimus, Pterodacyls, and another one I can't remember.
They just roam the map, running away from everything.
Nice touch.
Primal is only ever going to have 5, 4 carnivores and the Trike, and nuthin else.
The stupidest thing in Primal if you ask me are the Quetz.
Like really ? A giant bird is going to go all ape s h i t, just to try and eat me (which they do)?
And when you actually die by one ?......stupid.....
I mean if the Dino's ate stuff besides Human's in Primal, like they do in Reborn (seriously dude, they only eat People in primal eden apperantly), that game would be bad a s s.
As it is, it only sits right above Reborn simply because the environments in Primal are superbly done, if you have capable hardware, you will be amazed by its ambience.
And the functioning hidding mechanic, but you gotta have full noble gear (but when it works ? freaking awesome), and the bases (yes they got bases).
-6 different dinosaurs (4 herbivores, 2 carnivores, which i find pretty realistic). There's also 3 ambient creatures. Oh, and also, mutant dinosaurs.
-Good A.I.
-Good ambience
-Good graphics
-4 guns
-Plenty of upgrades for your hunter or guns.
-3 islands, with different conditions (Fog and Dusk) that makes hunting easier or harder.
-Not really tense
-High repayability
-Great hiding mechanics
-Great stealth mechanics
-No health bar (which is scary and great, because these large dinosaurs irl are gonna one shot you either)
-No stamina bar (which is cool, because if you run too much, you can't focus on dinosaurs when you aimed, and who wants this when you can't outrun almost anything).
-No day and night cycles.
-Singleplayer only
(Much cheaper)
theHunter Primal
-5 different dinosaurs/creatures (4 carnivores, one herbivore -_-). One subspecies called Primal, which was just a reskin of Tyrannosaurus Rex but much harder to kill and serves as boss/ultimate trophy.
-Great graphics
-Okay A.I.
-12 guns scattered around the map (some only able to be obtained after killing rare animals)
-Great ambience
-A lot of "upgrades" or your hunter or guns (3 different sights for different guns, more than 30 outfits for camouflage).
-Health bar (kinda stupid, but at least Quetzalcoaltus and Velociraptor won't one shot you).
-Stamina bar (stupid feature. You only able to dodge attacks with this, and that's also because the A.I. was plain stupid. And it increase and decrease extremely fast).
-Very tense
-High replayability
-One large island with different biomes
-Great hiding mechanics
-Great stealth mechanics
-Day and night cycles, which was cool, but didn't add any challenge whatsoever. The night time was pretty bright.
-Storms, which add a small challenges.
-Singleplayer and Multiplayer
(Much more expensive)
Overall, both games are great. I recommend you getting these than getting ARK, unless you want some Minecraft with Dinosaurs with non blocky graphics.
