What's best way to kill them? Can't lure it out to sunlight, it's the one bottom of the stairs.
Iron/Steel Weapons don't do much damage he pretty much 1 shots my armour, then 2 shots me. Buddy as well and buddy is way better at game than me. I'm old and slow.

If you are still using iron/steel weapons don't fight trolls. Run away or past them. I'm old and slow also. If thst is the case then you gotta get your better tier weapons and armor.

In some cases, it's possible to pepper them with arrows from a distance, while dodging the flying boulders. Aim for the head for max damage. It will take a lot of hits to actually kill them, so the aim is more just to whittle it down as a prelude to the actual fight.

When fighting one I tend to dodge-roll forward past it, then smack it from behind before rolling again. If you get the timing right, it works great. If you don't, well... ouch! :D

Edit: I changed my dodge-roll key to L-Alt, which I find much easier than Ctrl (or whatever the default key was). I tend to prefer 2h weapons so dodge is essential.

Typically I've had the best luck just shooting them with a ton of arrows. Even the lowest tier bow and arrows should work on the first few trolls until you get to Dwarrowdelf.

When you tunnel through dirt into a new area, often a good idea to do so up high, not at the ground level. That way if you do end up at a troll lair, you can stay up high and yeah, arrow the big jerk down. Careful though. Sometimes they have good aim with that rock :P

Kite them. Shoot at them or even hit them and then retreat into the corridor they can't follow you into. Do it on repeat till they die.

When you encounter a Dirt pile that blocks a new area, don't dig straight, dig diagonally. At the end, only dig enough that you can squeeze through. Then lure the Troll there. His boulders don't destroy the dirt. Crouch down and shoot him a gazillion times. Eventually he will run, but just walk out and he comes back. Then just dive back into your tunnel and keep shooting. He drops eventually. OR do this for only a short while and then jump out, charge and hit him him with the Steel Battleaxe with Shocking Rune. Roll, repeat. Dead after a few hits.

i usually dig small hole and shoot avoiding throwing rocks .

Second to what several others have said... Did partially into a room, hide and shoot.

Hide and shoot is the easiest. I recommend waiting until you can get a First Age Crossbow and a supply of Norgrod Bolts, usually takes less than ten bolts to bring one down.

They don't like two-handed axes or hammers (mattocks), and they don't like the Lightning Rune. So fully charge your attack, hit it, then dodge-roll away. If you get the feeling, it shouldn't take many hits and the troll won't be able to hit you. Trolls are just a matter of practise and timing.

Speaking of the runes - is the Lightning a way to go against trolls? I was thinking about Fire, but didn't have a chance to test it yet.

Use a weapon with a fire on it. Trolls hate fire, and it does damage over time. Lightning does too, but fire seems the best way to fight trolls.

Fire is really good. Just make sure to have enough stamina after doing a power swing to light the troll on fire. You may need to do the run and back away method of fighting it.

Got it sorted now.. you fight during the day and get them to play "follow the dwarf"
