Darkest Depths

Is there a way to explore the darkest depths and not be in despair without crafting the lamp of durin down there ?

You unlock it by reading ranger journals. You collect pages you find around, then use them to repair the journal. After reading them, you learn new brewing recipe's.

The bright beer also allows you to walk thru dark miasma mists. It protects you from despair and shadow curses.
