Deep Dark Mine shaft
I have found a few of these I have only entered this one Lower depths, I'm not understanding the mechanics of them. I get it Despair sets in when you get to a certain depth but why? Why am I in darkness, But i have torches, also have Standing torches set up on Platforms as i descend. Ran into A Nameless what level are these I barley put a dent into with a first age great sword with fire damage. Also found Deep Mushroom

Can anybody enlighten me

Yea, im not too clear on them myself. The Nameless monster killed me. Im not sure what your supposed to do about the darkness down there. Maybe use a Durin's Lamp and build one?
Run in run out. Live, die, repeat.

There's buffs you can use to mitigate despair. One of the ranger drinks I believe. Also, if you bring food that gives you a regen bonus you can offset the dot damage. It's a high risk/high reward area. You're not meant to just take your time there. As others have said get in and get out.
you can even build a heart down there and a map stone to travel away

doesnt work, a shame really as it would be a expensive but doable way to explore down there :/

I built a map stone at the top. Whenever I get the Durin's lamp buff I pop over and mine away.

I've found two cracks so far. I find that one of them does not despair as quickly as the other.

This. Do this and it's manageable. Create a map stone at the top, and one at the bottom. Keep dismantling and moving the bottom mapstone to each set of tunnels as you mine them out.

The mini-balrogs are really not worth bothering with. They take a bit to kill, hit ridiculously hard, and don't give loot that's really great. The only way I killed them decently fast was with end-game mithril weapons. With enchantments. I mostly just lured them into deadends and then ran back around them. Basically I just ignored them.

Dang, I didn't even think to do that. I placed Durin's Lamp down there but man, would have saved myself a lot of time putting a map stone there.

Thanks Did as you said it works. But i have noticed that if i put one at the top, The bottom one does not show up on the list, but if i travel to one further away then the one on the bottom shows up.

Also My beef there should not be spiders down there there's nothing to eat except for Deep mushrooms and spiders suck their victims dry. since its completely dark bugs wouldn't be down there as most are drawn to light

Also noticed if i get despair i zoom out I am tired yet it tells me it too early to sleep again

I had 4 in my game. To me they all have despair buff and are very hard to mine in. I wish you could build durin's lamp down there..oh well.

As a single-player I avoided the deep dark until near the end when Mithril is the only place you can get in quantity.
