remove some lights then

this modification is a complete failure, the variations of brightness depending on where you are are totally inconsistent. Please put back the old lighting effects, they were very good before.

Thank you for the work done but the update concerning the light needs to be reviewed please

Agree, I have to constantly adjust the lighting every other minute. The Great Forge is too bright, the mines are too dark. The lighting wasn't an issue. Please revert it back to the way it was. This is the worst patch, you broke something that was perfect.

I think the new lighting is great.

1.3.3 lighting has utterly destroyed immersion

(Good)
- The caverns outside of bases look darker and more oppressive
- Light sources are more noticeable in them

(Bad)
- The environmental light-change from Hearths is way too strong and washed-out, making the outside of my base look bright as day and the inside a pale glare
(I am using the Grand Hearth in one of the Great Forges on low graphics, no player-placed torches, only lit braziers)

To the Devs:
Please consider rolling back this change and giving it some more time in the oven;
Thank you for fixing a ton of bugs and opening up access to recipes!

*Edit
Loading my Sandbox world and popping into a base I built on the stairs between floors, the lighting is much easier on the eyes here (1 Tier-3 Hearth and 2 standing torches)
I think the problem must be with the hearth's light-aura being slightly over-tuned and the Great Forge brazier lights being way over-tuned

It's the hearth. Remove all of the lights from a base and watch the changes. Then remove the hearth and watch the drastic changes that occur. Pop out a floor tile and walk to the edge of the hearth coverage. Then take one step out of it. and watch what happens to the light. They put a post processor on the hearth that just blasts light into a box. Washing out all color and causing drastic changes to levels on entry/exit of said box.

I'm having the same issues.

While I do like how Moria looks more oppressive with the new lighting, the update makes navigating the crystal descents nigh impossible -- even with a torch you can't see enough to even know where to go without falling, and mine areas (e.g. the Mithril Lode) are too dark to see anything.

I do like some of the other graphic updates, just not a big fan of the lighting changes. I'd like to see them rolled back or at least an option (It does seem like some players enjoy the new lighting, I'm just not one of them)

FWIW I'm using an Nvidia Gforce RTX 3070

100% agree. And the update has made decorative lighting completely obsolete. This part of the update was not thought through very well...
grimdeal314 Oct 5, 2024 @ 9:56am
the lower deeps look like badly lit show caves as far as the eye can see and my home base in shallower depths is totally blown out by the "sun"; the over exposure on the hearths is terrible. the camera is affected (at least over exposed) so long as you're in the buildable area.

decorative lights are indeed absolutely useless now. when affected by hearths: textures are flat and dull, metal looks horrible, and the water is no longer clear. it's now mirky, yellow and all but opaque.

my brightness settings were only at 1.8 originally and turned them down immediately after the update to the lowest 1.4. i have only a hearth in my lower deeps camp.

and who do i see about the resource drops changing? cause thanks for all the elven trees coming back but my foraging runs have changed drastically. i can live with that so long as the hearths get another pass. cause it hurts to look at now.

yall cry to much the lighting was godawful b3fore lights dimming and ♥♥♥♥ just cuz you left the immediate area is some of the mos annoyig things that was in the game
The ambient lights in caves and unlit areas actually feel way better and immersive to me. It even puts some pressure when you encounter random mobs. They nailed it just about right in my opinion.

However, color tones in interiors feel off. That I do agree.

The color tones are way off because they using an area light and post processor to blast the hearth area with light. All they had to do was crank up the light a bit on the torches and disable the post processor they are using to set the mood of the special areas(story). Start a new map and get to the forge. Before you do anything to it stand outside and look in. Then walk in and watch the light level drop. They are setting the mood. Shut that crap off and let me set the mood. Instead they fight that post processor with another one. That only causes problems for everything.

I like the new lighting system. Interior of bases looks better for my taste, although it be a bit too much if you used torches for decorative purposes. And I love the darker caves, it gives more immersion.
