Also yes please fix the Dragon Dogs hiest with tunnels. Cops have no trouble going through it but friendly bots get hung up in certain spots then never come back.
jokes aside, this is a fantastic write-up about AI behavior. I myself have been scripting AI behavior for a personal project using behavior tree and have taken detailed notes. I'll be referring to this information in the future for sure.
But hey, the more identifiable and brilliant behavioral compromises you guys are able to add in, the more things I can point to when I'm thinking about the best bot buddies in games. Lead by example here dudes! This is GREAT stuff!
I'm really happy to see your guys focusing on improving the friendly AI like this. Way too many online co-op games treat bots as nothing more than temporary placeholders when you can't quite find a full squad of people to play with. So they just leave them dumb as rocks, and nearly useless, making inclusion at all seem like a waste of time.
Having good bots can help with so many of the problems online only games face. Like alleviating low player count issues by letting more people play effectively with smaller squads. And letting people play solo without basically being stuck in training mode. And, it can even allow for the game to continue living, even after the main servers inevitably get shutdown.
I grew up spoiled by the amazing bots in Unreal Tournament. Even today, I still play botmatch in those games because of them. So its always been super frustrating seeing how pretty much every game since then has completely ignored AI players, and the entire concept has regressed so far since then. Even though computer technology is so much more powerful now, that we could have significantly more intelligent and advanced bots than ever before. And there are so many more multiplayer focused games than ever before that would benefit from having good bots.
